Bonjour!
After a busy June month finishing the cottage and going on my little roadtrip to film, today's video is basically a "dump" of everything else that happened in June :)
But I am also taking you back to Muriel's brocante shop and showing you around the charming medieval village of Nolay and its historic buildings.
Hope you enjoy this one!

Marloes, I just LOVE your little kitchen, it has such charm and character... yes, to the white paint on the dresser... I'm always covering things in white paint, it transforms shabby! Always worrying to have a drought... I used to bucket my bath water around my struggling trees, but have discovered a method which means I rarely have to water. I buy old carpet from charity shops, cut it into strips, soak them in water and arrange them round the tree trunks after a deep watering. Cover the wet carpet with compost or any other material which will slow the evaporation, and you can even plant grass over it. Also, when transplanting trees or shrubs, I prune away most of the growth, it stops the trees struggling to keep all the growth alive. They Look good but they always recover and put out fresh growth the next year. Your son's artwork is just beautiful, what a lovely colour sense he has.. would love to know the words of the poem.

Thanks for all the advice! We hung the specific one my son made in our living room. His poem says: “Un pré vert, nous serons bien, les chaussures pleines de terre” which means something like “a green pasture, we’ll enjoy it, our shoes full of soil” He put a cow in his artwork, it wasn’t hung in one of the shop windows so we could take it home! But I was amazed by how beautiful all the artworks were and am so grateful our school invests in these kinds of projects for the students!

It is indeed picturesque, the wheelbarrow with a fine selection of antique water vessels at the village pump. The lady of the house in a floaty summer dress determined to keep her Oak tree alive after "they" paved paradise and put up a parking lot. Any realistic country person would pull up in a truck or a trailer with an IBC in the back and bring back enough water to make it worth while. This is not country life, country life is full of hard work, this is an idealised version of country life. Actual country life, particularly in a drought is way less picturesque.

You are a woman after my own heart. Having a cohesive color in the kitchen calms my brain. It certainly has changed my experience in my kitchen after painting it. Have you thought about partnering with a local potter to create mugs, bowls etc that you could sell in the rentals? People love leaving with momentous and gifts from their holidays. You could have your logo placed on each piece to remind them of their lovely experience on your property.💗

Try to buy some calcium to add to your dying trees and bushes. You should be able to buy bags of it at the nursery. Another way is saving your eggshells and putting them in water for a few days. The result is awfully smelly but works miraculously for dying bushes and trees after several applications. Your channel is much appreciated and helps me to relax.

Good point. Two houses had a fire in our village recently… one 150 years old stone house and a new built 25 year old house. Hardly anything left of the newer house and the fire was killed faster than the old house. The old house had all the walls still up. Both are being restored now and the new one only took a few months and it was incredible to see what simple and cheap materials were used. The old was is being restored and takes much longer but with traditional materials and methods. The difference is insane… we would never have bought a new house here, people sometimes forget to appreciate the building traditions. Our house probably took around 5 to 10 years to build when it was built!

I wonder if local farmers still come in and sell their vegetables and fruits, and meat there? Before grocery stores existed this was how it was done & still is in most of the world. There are several spots around our city, Tulsa ..."Farmer's Markets' that are along streets or under large canopies in the suburbs built for that purpose to keep them out of the rain ...from early Spring until late Autumn. The Amish meat and milk are grass-fed & the best, also there are Muong Farmers originally from Vietnam who sell vegetables.

🙃 It’s not about how much it costs, it’s about not wanting to use a precious resource such as drinking water when there is water around me “going to waste”. I know, it may be a little crazy but I feel better doing it this way. Also, with droughts, we are not allowed to use tap water to water plants…

everything looks very relaxing...also, as a suggestion, I believe that if the curtains would have been installed along the entire wall and not only where the windows/doors are it would look like they were meant to be there, improving the aesthetics

And by the way we open them to one side and both of them slide all the way to the wall on the right, that looks much better and as you say more intentional. I don’t like the look of having one opened to the left and one to the right. I am considering getting an extra one so the wall is completely covered from window to door to wall but don’t like it if the entire wall would be covered by curtains. Anyway… it’s not perfect.

@@FrenchCountryLife I am wanting one of those mixing bowls you use a lot, and she only had small ones in there that I have just watched on your latest video. We are planning trip to France from NZ hopefully next year and you are on our list, but in case it doesn't happen I thought I would just love one of those bowls. I managed to buy the baugette tray like you have and also some French flour, so I am dying to try it with your recipe! True Francophile I am! I am sure I was born in the wrong country! I’m wondering why you are using such a small brush to paint that wall? Do use much wider brushes or rollers, you will get it done so quickly, using less energy. I feel sorry you are having to deal with drought, it can be heartbreaking and very hard work, especially in the heat. But your cottage is looking good!
@FrenchCountryLife
@FrenchCountryLife Жыл бұрын
The wall is very structured. A roller wouldn’t get the paint in and I am using a small one to be able to press and brush the paint in all the little holes. Thanks for your kind advice though!
