June 1st is the start of summer, imo That lady who sings operatically has such a beautiful voice!
@anthonysimpsonanygoround87498 ай бұрын
She’s still my favorite vocally in the role but I also like and recommend to listeners Renee Fleming in the 2018 Broadway revival.
@williamsnyder56167 ай бұрын
The lady with the operatic voice is Broadway star Claramae Turner. Also, Barbara Ruick, who plays Carrie Pipperidge and has some major bits in this song ("The sheep aren't sleeping anymore.") met and married a pianist in the 20th Century-Fox orchestra named Johnny Williams. Two decades later, Johnny became John and the musical themes for Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader were written.

@@williamsnyder5616 thanks for the info!
@anthonysimpsonanygoround87497 ай бұрын
@@williamsnyder5616 Claramae Turner also did opera apparently. She sings “June” brilliantly in the film of “Carousel”, as well as “You’ll Never Walk Alone” of course, but interestingly one of her verses in “This Was a Real Nice Clambake” wasn’t used in the film, but is the only verse on the Command vinyl LP recording, in which she also sang Nettie. Also, the character’s name in the stage show is Nettie Fowler but for some reason it was changed to Nettie Jordan for the film, which is still plausible as she is Julie’s cousin. The role of Nettie is quite often done by an opera singer but in a recent revival Shirley Jones actually performed it!

A Frank Sinatra sing of the Carousel soundtrack (if any be) be wonderful as a cover alternative to the great Gordon MacRae's, but GM was ethnically and tall burly body build wise a best casting of Billy Bigelow.
@anthonysimpsonanygoround87492 жыл бұрын
Another theory is that Ava Gardner wanted her spouse Sinatra to be around while she was involved in her own film projects. It’s true he could have left due to the initial idea of two takes per scene, but ironically Fox dropped the dual filming concept… even though it was filmed in that 55mm widescreen process, they found a way to reduce the image to 35mm for theaters not equipped for 55mm. MacRae had already performed the role at Dallas State Fair and having been with Shirley Jones in “Oklahoma!” he was a logical choice and did an outstanding job. Phoebe and Henry Ephron, the screenwriters, urged Jones reportedly to phone MacRae. A few years later Sinatra was able to successfully do the swaggering lead character in “Pal Joey” which Gene Kelly had originated on stage.

In this bright and beautiful number, nature bursts into life upon the glorious New England seashore, and we soon learn our heroine Julie Jordan is pregnant (June is Bustin’ Out All Over…), which transforms her tempestuous relationship with Billy Bigelow.
