Usually in groups, the main vocalist is the one who belts the most and is a powerhouse. But in BTS, Jungkook being a main vocalist is quite unique. He has great vocal agility, he doesn't strain his voice and he's stable on stage. He really knows his own barriers and which notes he shouldn't try to hit.

A lot of main vocalists I have seen are the ones to hit most of the high notes or do the crazy belting. In Jungkook's case, he doesn't belt often.

I actually totally understand what Jungkook was saying about wanting to keep his style secure and work on vocalization without sacrificing his colour. I have been singing all my life. Never really had the opportunity to get vocal lessons but I have quite a wide range and am very comfortable singing technically difficult songs. But sometime in college I got a chance to be trained by some opera singers who visited. One of them was a soprano and loved my technique and chose me to perform for a recital. A baritone who was training us however kept trying to change the way I sing, and it was just such a strange experience because he kept saying it wasn't my real voice and wanted me to sing differently without considering that operatic technique isn't the only right way to sing, nor is the vocal production method supposed to be the same for a baritone and a soprano. It really troubled me a lot and was a blow to my confidence until I decided to disregard any of his advice. I realised that it's really important to find the right vocal coach for you. Some of them are bent on making you sing their way instead of guiding your voice. So I've basically stuck with making changes and practicing various techniques while sticking to my voice rather than doing the reverse.. So I feel that from his explanation, he must have felt that the lessons were altering his vocal colour to something that felt unnatural. He's damn good at melding himself perfectly into any song and any style. His vocal agility and flexibility is also seen in his ease in mimicking the others. He really does explore and experiment vocally because he is very driven and wants to excel, but on his own terms.

I agree that it seems like there would be pressure (to maintain the same sound that people are used to) but I think the way he did it is a vital key to his success. By securing his "color" or sound first, then working on more training it allowed us to fall in love with his voice then continue to be blown away everytime he pulls out a new skill.

Firstly, I am not trying to discredit any of BTS member here cause i love the 7 of them. But when it comes to what's going behind the BTS song that we always hear, one of part is recording the roles of main vocal are really important. Almost the guide tracks of BTS sung by JK, so he learned it first before any member to guide the member while recording. He always add some adlibs and background vocal to fill the gaps that member left so BTS song are more rich. That's why JK always took more time while recording. JK maybe often becomes the last person leave recording room cause he will give adlibs, harmonizing with other member, or doing the background vocal like Suga said when recording In the Soop ost, "don't worry jungkook will handle it", or when RM live and ask to JM or V (I forget), "what are you doing here?" and he answer "waiting for JK to finish recording". And also remember when jin said about recording Jamais Vu, he already record beautiful high note adlibs but cause JK say no, so that adlib doesn't make it. That's why he almost know the lyrics of BTS's song even that are not his part. But that's not the point, the point is when it come to his role as main vocal, he knows what he's doing, knows what touch this song needs, and he expresses it well with using his voice. Not only one producer I've heard about JK's versatility voice that what producer need when recording. The fact that JK's voice in the studio version or live version are the same cause he always ate CD. His voice is clear but it has color and can pull off any kind of genre. When she was recording for her song “I Could Fall in Love” the producers had suggested that she take vocal lessons but after she did, her character/vocal style wasn’t present and didn’t actually suit the song/vibe they were going for, so they kept it as is! So i understand what jungkook means by not wanting to lose his character. (Selena didn’t take professional vocal lessons either)
