This video really shows how every step a soldier would take opened him up to another hundred places the enemy could laying in wait. On the ground, in the trees, bushes or maybe it's a trip wire, a land mine and on and on. Easy to see how keeping it together under that kind of pressure is not for the fainthearted. Good to see an upload from you and I hope you are doing great. 👍 Edit add on: I didn't read the description before I watched so the comment I made shows, Yes that clip showed exactly what you intended to show. Double 👍👍

Very much appreciated video! It's amazing to think that this is exactly what the combatants saw and heard as they moved through the Guadalcanal jungle. Really brings it to life. As jungles go, this is rather sparse and tidy. Quite manageable to navigate through. Not so sure the whole island is like this. I strongly doubt it.

Thanks Dave. I asked in a previous video if you could show a clip like this. It's on relatively flat ground and it looks like a fairly nice day yet the jungle limits visibility to the point where one could become lost. I can only imagine having to go up and down near vertical hills and to do it all in the rain and under fire.

Yes this is only single canopy and fairly open.

No still here. I’m hoping to get back to Guadalcanal later this year for some more filming. I’m currently working on a video featuring a Japanese unit.

Sure would love to see it in my lifetime. Hopefully one day with my son if the world holds together and he doesn’t have to follow in the family tradition and end up back fighting in the pacific. But thank you so much for these videos, goosebumps as I try to imagine my grandfather and his pals on recon patrols creeping through that jungle drawing maps while beat up with malaria and wounds probably hungry too. Chills. We still only wear wool socks in this family all because of Guadalcanal lessons. Be well.

My grandfather was in the battle. 97th Field Artillery Battalion, Americal Division. I’m going to go there someday soon. Any tips on visiting the battlefields and the jungles? Are relics available to export?

Have you ever gotten lost ? Maybe for a little while. I know you've been all over, but I figure that jungle could get the best turned around.
@guadalcanal-walkingabattle5349 Жыл бұрын
Not entirely lost. It easy to get turned around at times if your not switched on with land navigation. GPS assists when it’s not triple canopy.

Crocodiles on Guadalcanal that make alligators look like lizards.😀

Death awaited everywhere unseen. The troops must have stopped and listened to the birds and animals, and most likely could get close enough to smell the enemy before all hell broke loose.

No poisonous snakes thank goodness on Guadalcanal. Plenty of lizards, spiders, centipede and mosquitoes
