In my opinion keeping the body hydrated is the number one priority in warm climates. I can go days on little food but dehydration quickly leaves me weak and lethargic. However, it is critically important that the water be safe to drink or else you could suffer dehydration and physical weakness due to the effects of dysentery or other water-borne illness.
Wild water is just that - water found in nature. Springs, rain and coconuts are my favorite sources. When drinking from springs I look for springs where I believe the water has filtered through the earth. The longer the water has travelled through the earth the better. Rain water can be collected in leaves, coconut shells, depressions in rocks or other places that are clean. Stream and river water can be risky unless you know the source and are confident that there is no source of contamination along its course. To be sure it is best to boil stream and river water. A container is needed to hold the water and then the container can be placed on a fire or hot rocks placed in the water to cook it.
In this video I explore some techniques to acquire safe drinking water in a tropical forest.

You earn your respect with your honesty pal, thanks for showing reality. I am reminded of a Japanese quote from a book called the Hagakure, - When meeting with a sudden rain shower some men do such things as run, duck and cover under trees or the eaves of a building, the resolved man will not hasten his pace or deviate from his chosen path and upon reaching his destination will have received no more or less of a soaking. Good to see you take it with such humour, most wouldn't. But we all do such things.

I love being in the rain. The camera gear doesn’t. Camera gear doesn’t mix well with nature. I prefer nothing more than to walk in the rain. I love it. It sucks when wearing much clothes but in just a pair of shorts it’s fantastic.

Over the years I've been watching, there have been many reasons to respect and admire you, Chad. All the language you *didn't* use after that fall is right up there with every example of creativity, fortitude and exactitude you've displayed. Lesson: Even experts make mistakes. It started to rain, Chad got in a hurry (why?), he forgot some things, his shirt and to be careful (over a little rain). The result; he was mildly injured, lost all the work he had done, and worst of all began to get angry, which can lead to much worse things happening. Just imagine if Chad was alone and his fall was worse. I am glad Chad showed this video. He used his mistake to teach us a lesson, a key to survival, NEVER, NEVER get in a hurry, it will almost always lead to some sort of trouble, Thanks Chad for the lesson, I hope you're not badly injured. ;-)

That's a good opportunity to stress being extra careful in a survival situation. That fall could have resulted in your situation going from relatively good to life-threatening in a hurry. Getting an injury that makes it harder or impossible to gather food and water or build shelter and if there's no one there to help you, it could become a death sentence. All from a little fall. That fall looked like it hurt. Good man getting up and shaking it off. Stay safe, man. 👍👍

When you're in a tropical area you should also check for red bumps on the skin, since it could be botflies. You should try to drive out the larvae by blocking its air supply which is the hole in the skin, when you do, it will come out for air and you can pick it out. At least that's what I've learned.
@ChadZuberAdventures
@ChadZuberAdventures 9 ай бұрын
Have you had botflies before? My friend David did only one time. He said it was pretty nasty. I've never had botflies deposit eggs in my skin. If it happens I will try different techniques to remove the larvae.

Chad: I found that you can use Mexican Salvia which is common in the semi arid, jungle, and coniferous forests in Mexico as a mosquitoe repellant. Also it burns in the fire, and you can keep those No Seeums at bay. If I may I'd like to add my experience with drinking water in Guerrero, Oaxaca and Yucatan. I tried to take each instance as something to learn. In the inland mountains of Guerrero I ran out of water on a long hike(I took a wrong turn from one village). I was getting dehydrated so finding water( yes, it's everywhere as you said in this video) coming out of a hillside, so I assumed it was safe. Wrong! I ended up with amoebic dysentery a few days later. Another thing I learned from the locals was to avoid slow running water, leaches seem to like it. I have more to say but, I'll leave that for other times. Your videos are great! It's educational for people who want to be out and in the wild. I hope others learn from you though, it could save them a lot of grief or their life. Keep up the great work.

Yes stagnant water is usually more risky. I think part of the problem is that most people have weak immune systems and low tolerance. I’ve only once become mildly sick from wild water and it was from a river that is totally accessible for many miles and definitely had contamination.

@@ChadZuberAdventures ya, i have definitely noticed a change in what youtube suggests, and honestly i don't usually like it's suggestions, but i guess since the world and people are ever changing we need to adapt to survive, and the same goes for youtube channels. but i'm pretty sure that this video was more along the lines of what youtube likes to push. a little more action packed and fast paced, which means it's less likely for he average viewer with a 2 second attention span to click away. now all you need to do is make over edited thumbnails with unrealistic colors and a picture of you making faces that are a combination of shock, disgust, and some emotion we don't have a name for, and you will outperform Pewdiepie lol but seriously, this was an awesome video packed full of good info, energy, and a bit of excitement, and if you are able to put out more vids with a similar pacing and feel, then i could definitely see your channel picking back up. just my 2 cents, and i hope it helps because i wanna see more from you

Something I've learned: you can cut wild grape vines and drink the water from them, tastes a bit minerally, but what did you expect? Make sure it's a grape vine though, not sure if you can do that with ALL vines.

ouch that fall was nasty. You could've broke your collar bone or injure your shoulder. I'm glad you're OK. However, as you said, that's life. Fall and injury like this in real survival situation may cost you life. You took it like a man, kudos for that.
