Jungle Warfare Training | Marines training in Japan | Marine Combat Traininig

The Jungle Warfare Training Center (JWTC), located at Camp Gonsalves, Okinawa, Japan, is the world’s premier jungle training center and venue for jungle and littoral warfare exercises. JWTC conducts unit and individual training courses to prepare Marine Corps, joint, and allied forces for operations in austere littoral environments. I went through jungle training in Vietnam in 1967. It was very realistic.

If Jungle Warfare Training is so critical for preparing Marines against P² adversaries, then it should be replicated on the East and West coasts and made as part of the 03 pipeline following IMC.

It’s unspeakably hard to replicate an entire environment, the animals, the plant life and fauna, the Terrain, and all associated you would face in the rest of the world, in CONUS. While we could probably afford (after years/decades of construction) building a simulated course, there’s nothing that can bring in the true humidity/feeling of being away from home. This course helps build the leaders of tomorrow to push their fellow Marines when in the actual environment. For lack of better terms, we take advantage of what we have
