My Son's were brought up with these guys and learnt their songs when they were very young! My 3 year old insisted on singing it to his older brother's class when we took our new baby to see the Teacher and class!

Lovely song to listen to and participate in when you're a few drinks deep in a St. Patrick's day beer tent. Also lovely to listen to stone cold sober. Overall, lovely song.

From the amazing 19894 "Reunion" CD. Right up there with 'In Person At Carnegie Hall' as the boys' very best album.

When I was 24, I gave up on being The Wild Rover for the chance to get the girl (17) who ment the world to me. This year (2021) marks 36 years together, with two daughters.

I've been a wild rover for many's the year and I've spent all my money on whiskey and beer. But now I'm returning with gold in great store and I never will play the wild rover no more [[Chorus:]] And it's no, nay, never, no, nay, never, no more will I play the wild rover no, never, no more I went into an ale-house I used to frequent and I told the landlady my money was spent. I asked her for credit, she answered me nay, Such "a custom like yours I can have any day [[Chorus]] I took from my pocket ten sovereigns bright and the landlady's eyes opened wide with delight. She said I'd have whiskey and wines of the best and the words that she told me were only in jest. [[Chorus]] I'll go home to my parents, confess what I've done, and I'll ask them to pardon their prodigal son. And when they've caressed me as oft' times before then I never will play the wild rover no more [[Chorus]]

American here also and not a drop of Irish in my blood, African American, but I find these old Irish songs to be very enjoyable. Good music is good for the soul

I love Irish music, but please don't label all good folk songs like these as Irish. Just thought I'd point out that although The Clancy Brothers popularised this song, it's not an Irish song. It's most likely Scottish, English or Australian, and dates from the early to mid 1800s. The Clancy Brothers themselves, who made their names in the USA during the 1960s folk revival, used to introduce it as an Australian song in their concerts. A number of well known songs that people today seem to think are Irish (because Irish musicians have popularised them) are from other parts of the British Isles or Australia.
