I think you really capture the story with the lyrics, and the tone makes it sound very sad, as it really is.

Yeah In fact it feels like the bridges are the voices of soldiers fighting a war, the victory of which is presumably the rapture. But the chorus sounds like the civilians and residents of war torn areas that have grown sick and tired of the war and want to put an end to it - literally sacrificing the soldier's way of life to live theirs. And also "fighting to save their (the soldiers') lives". Also at the part where "the point of the rapture is lost" it seems like the soldiers are disillusioned and weary but still hoping to fight to the end to find that salvation - that rapture. But the ending sounds like the civilians have had enough, and started rebelling to end the war. The shorter version, though, does encapsulate the anime's plot and characters' motivations. Very well done by the way Animuse.
