The duck stamp competition should have a people choise award where fans can vote online. I would love to vote for my favorite stamp.

May i ask what art education is like in Scotland public schools?
@neeskeskneesk4004
@neeskeskneesk4004 4 ай бұрын
@@funguscake Sure :) It depends on the school and the enthusiasm of the art teachers, lol! Every school child has art (and music) as part of their week up until the age of 14 and then it's optional. (Dance and Drama is also taught in some schools). At school I did pottery, but that's not always given as an option. My partner did photography but that was a separate course in my school. I know that in more rural schools there might be few option though (although we do have artist towns in the most rural places here too! lol!) In the City I live in (Glasgow) they've just relaunched the Gallery of Modern Art art exhibition for all of the Secondary School children (aged ~12 to ~18) to enter which is kind of cool too :) I'd have loved to see my work in a 'proper' gallery as a teen :D

@@neeskeskneesk4004 What fun! That museum sounds great! Thats so amazing, kids need art! I remember in highschool school (2012) art was very limited. Throughout elementary and jr high it was also very very limited. Though my school was very small, maybe like 400 kids, we didnt have any artists. Maybe a few, but skill was very limted. Compared to my sister who went to the same highschool in the early 2000s. She had alot of great artist in her class and the art program was always doing something. Going on trips, painting murals, ect. Thank you!

I'm very autistic and used to take art before I went into languages-based stuff this year for it. I like the model decoy ducks. And I been knowing species ever since I was a kid. I wish we had this in our area for art since I would go duck watching my nickname is doodle duck as an kid. Never drew them but I always drew rubber ducks lol

Gosh ever since I was little I have been absolutely obsesseddddd with ducks, and its one heck of a coincidence that my middle name is "Drake"! Growing up, my friends always knew me as the duck guy with how much I poured out my love for the animals and how often they'd find me doodling them in my textbooks during school!!! I had no idea that these kind of competitions were a thing and specifically for ducks! I don't think ill ever be able to get to the level as all of these talented artists shown in your video, but it really does inspire me to pick up the pencil again and keep doodling ducks just for the heck of it. ALSO AAAA I found your online shop and had to nab a "Duck Person" crew neck for myself... like come on... it has a duck on it... AND its blue ✨ Thank you so much for making this video, I had a blast learning about these duck stamp competitions, and it makes me excited to support them in the future!!! (i need ducky stamps in my life 🦆)

I love that they made sure to show both the scan and the original artwork for the damaged piece because depending on the medium it can make a difference when it comes to deciding the final rankings imo. Overall, they will be using scans of course but when all of the top 5 looked so good I could see myself using what the original looked like as a way to decide the final score. (ignoring the damaged bits) the 3rd one shown out of the top five (so the grey duck with the water dripping off the beak) was rated way too low in my opinion though. Getting water to look right and all those reflections is stupid hard to do yet they did it perfectly. I'm hoping the score was lower only because it didn't look as good at a smaller scale because if not I'm big mad it did worse than the one before it. Which had a neat perspective but that was the only unique point. (all the paintings had amazing details from what I can see in the video)

I really wanna know like that one judge who gave out a 1 or 2 score I really wanna know their opinions in the artworks not about hate, it’s just i wanna know what made them score of like 1 or 2
@smalltownstart

From my understanding it was mostly about size reproduction that convinced some to give a 1 or 2 - but always subjective and I never fully know ha

I'm a little confused about the blurb of the Federal Duck Stamp being "required for waterfowl hunters 16 and older". Surely hunting is the opposite of conservation? Requiring purchase of the duck stamp to license hunting seems a bit counter-intuitive, no?
@smalltownstart
@smalltownstart 4 ай бұрын
I understand what you mean. It does seem that way, but actually, hunting is extremely regulated and it was the idea of making this permit for hunters that has raised the majority of wetland conservation funds throughout history - the stamp raises $40 million every year (: and that money is used to restore and protect wetlands - if done right, hunting is a form of conservation, and its a necessary party of land preservation - I do see how it’s backwards but they benefit each other and I believe it’s the only way we could raise that amount of money

"If you guys could too" in relation to judt simply bending over, and picking up rubbish. That was probably THE best way I've ever heard someone give a point for conservation. Talking about things that we can do, as everyday humans, that can make a difference, as compaired to the lacklustre efforts by the government, pushing electric cars that will hardly make a dent in global emissions. Why cant we hire that guy as the global environmental minister or some shit 😭
