I am a non-skater - also 74 years of age, but, in the past, I recall a female graduate student of mine completing her degree studies whilst at the same time following a career in ice skating - and she had the determination and tenacity that all these young ladies show, to be successful in both :) The brilliance and beauty is self evident, but what bravery, to take such hard falls on ice, falls that would send the average soccer player reeling off the pitch on a stretcher, but these extraordinary young ladies get up and complete their performance - I can only assume they are able to compartmentalize any pain until their skate is ended. I also appreciate the knowledgeable commentary provided by Ted and Mark, adding the essential and important details which could be otherwise overlooked - a thoroughly enjoyable and interesting series - thank you

It always makes me a little sad to hear people say that skating is for the young. I'll let pursuing olympic gold be for the young, but skating itself is something that I'll keep doing as long as I'm physically able to

My skating coach is well into her 70's and skating on two artificial hips! ;) (And I'm 35 in a few months. I grew up skating laps around the rink, being Canadian, but was never allowed FIGURE skating lessons like I always wanted to do. I finally decided to start last year.)

I agree. After Russia and the Eteri era all those stolen medals the judges finally paying Japan/Korea back? Unfair but I feel for the Japanese and Korean screwed over by Russian politics.

@@KP-zd3hc I don't hate Asians, I'm just realistic. Mao, Ikura, Ami, Kaori and some Korean skaters are among my favorites skaters, but I know how to recognize a judging error when I see one (and I'm FAAAAAR from being the only one upset about the scores). Being given free PCS isn't fair. Not being called on an underotation or wrong edge isn't fair. No matter what ethnicity you are. For example, Jeongyul's combo was underrotated (and wasn't marked >). Yuseong's lutz combo had a blatant inside edge (and received a GOE of 1.70). And they both were given more PCS than skaters like Inga or Sofia. One point more, one point less are a thing. But nothing justify giving 5-6-7 more points to a skater, especially when it doesn't reflect their skating skills, objectively. In the short program, Yuseong was given 5 points more (in PCS) than Inga and Sofia. It's the value of a fucking jump. Judges gifted her of a bonus jump, just like that. Sometimes, it's justified (for example, Ami Nakai has really great skating skills). But PCS are unfortunately attributed based on the popularity-seniority of a skater (in any discipline) and it also depends on the popularity and reputation of your federation. It's not a secret that big feds skaters receive on average higher PCS (and even GOEs) than smaller feds skaters. If you didn't realize that yet, you missed a great part of the sport. Judges arbitrarily decide which skater is going to win even before they have step foot on the ice. But if calling the others "haters" is an efficient argument for you, no doubt you're so biased you can't even analyze things properly.

Вилимо, надо быть как в, Бухенвальде, прости Господи, недоедать, голодать, " кушать" блокаторы роста, как это делают с некоторыми спортсменками , чтобы ничто не мешало пубертату.... Это легче, только на прыжки не влияет.

У Софьи сейчас пубертатный период. Трудно справиться с весом, но она молодец все прыжки сделала, вращения тяжело даются, но это на работается, немного сбросится вес и все будет ок.

The cute Chinese turkish girl is lacking because she needs to lose weight. The stiff girl from Canada with a flat lutz should have been called, and her forehead bulges out a bit too much. She also looks a little manly. A little surgery when she's older will sky rocket her looks to where it should be like how the Koreans do it to look more feminine and fit the sport they represent.

Japanese and Korean. Samodelkina used to earn 30 in PCS 3 years ago on the JGP. The second korean skater had an under rotation that wasn’t called. Anastasia received *4* in components by a judge. Who the f receives 4 in PCS ???

The Japanese girl Ami looked the best. The Korean Yuseong who is deaf and cannot listen to music is overscored not the Japanese who has nice emotional range and gracious movements. The Korean has level 2 for good reason. She has bad feet. Unclean turns. She is a poor skater who has no musicality yet they shove her to the podium because of her fake generic sleepy program. Samodelkina is now built like a double decker truck and needs to switch to body building. She is no longer petite like the first Japanese. She is now Kaori sized but with worse spins. Kaori never spins so poor even though she too is a massive tractor who should lay off the mcdonalds big mac. Samodelkina used to have decent spins now it's poo. Koreans are overscored, but that Japanese girl (only that one) is good and deserves #1 in the short.
