My absolute favorite Elliott Smith song. I saw him perform this at club Avalon, in Boston, April of 2000. Now that he's gone, the chorus takes on a whole new level of poignancy, and desperation. How he keeps singing, " Everything Means Nothing to Me", it's almost like a cry for help.
@AlexStanilla4 жыл бұрын
he also said "everything means nothing to me" is like a positive sentiment for him. He loved nihilism.

I love John Frusciante, especially his solo work. He was my big inspiration. I just found out about Elliott and I started crying listening to Between the Bars. I bought Either/or (I hate pirating songs, I wouldn't like it done to my music, even if I was dead), and I just stood there in absolute shock. I've NEVER heard such EMOTION and POWER sung and stung through a song. Alameda was a perfect example. Just the whole start of that album was amazing. I can't even pick up the guitar the same without trying to achieve that structured smooth playing. His chord changes are unreal. I though John was the master, I'm sorry, but Elliott is the acoustic and chord king. I'd even go as far to say he's better than George and Lennon. Yeah.

lordsardonicvids Ty for bringing me to the song.. Wow ! This song is so uncanny to what I wrote that you had read. it is no wonder you lead me here! .my take on this song is a person who has come to grip with who they are & realizes all the journeys they have traveled in their life ...nothing reflects who they turned out to be. They don't see themselves as the strong statue others seen him to be! Wish I could of see the message you wrote before it got lost! the one you wrote: " OMG OMG OMG and did i say Oh My G... oh i guess i did because i just SHITCANNED THE COMMENT/REPLY of my life !"
@lordsardonicvids9 жыл бұрын
EmileBea1 You found a really good version of this. I think your take on this is pretty close, but all anyone really knows is he was a little high, depressed, and cut that title into his arm, and as the blood flowed, he came up with the song. Maybe hard to believe for some, but true. In his words are a sadness I have never quite lived but I've visited those places, only for a while. Yes I wish I could recall that one too, not boasting but losing that one hurt!!! oh well, always tomorrow. :)
@ptrombley4449 жыл бұрын
lordsardonicvids Yes indeed there is always tomorrow ... A chance to do better and be happier...or try to be....I know that if you just do 1 thing different each day that is good your day is can be brighter ...and you get a better out come at the end of the day you feel better. ...maybe even finally sleep the night trough...well maybe! I did not know he was high but the sadness poured through.....Cutting himself? Wow! Yes most of us never quite live...because there is too much to choose from...but for most of us , in our minds we have visited those dark places not just for a while.... that is to sad ....& never want to have to recall....time to make new memories , make better choices to have happy memories....We all need a new day to begin to make better choices! Huggzzzz

Prolly no one can even tell a difference! Dark places, ugghh! Seems the lines btwn that and the sunny happy, places, are blending together more. I'll find the way around... and a huggg is good thing!
