FIXING CRANK NO START ASTRO VAN

HAD THE SAME PROBLEM TOOK ME 15 MIN TO FIND IT,WAS A DEAD COIL WIRE FOUND PROBLEM DOING A SPARK TEST YOURS WAS GROUNDING MADE IT EASIER TO FIND .

Alot of times, it the ignition coil or the wiring harnesses plug that goes to coil, it has a short,or loose connection, there's also the headlight relay that's mounted on the firewall, some of these gms have the same wiring. I've also seen a bad oil pressure sensor that Will cuase a no start.

I had this same problem on my 2001 GMC Safari and it turned out to be the entire distributor had gone bad. It would turn over the engine, but not start. It is a common problem with the pancake distributor in the Astro and Safari.

Another issue to be aware of is the crankshaft position sensor. If the engine bucks and jerks while driving it is a sign that the crankshaft position sensor needs either 1 or 2 shims added to it. My van ended up needing 2 shims on my 4.3L engine. It's just something to be aware of if it ever happens. The replacement CPS usually comes with 2 shims when you buy it at O'Reilly Auto Parts.

Yeah, the sparkplugs and wires are a royal pain. I had a local shop replace them for me for $450 last year. No regrets other than that shop cracking my windshield and then denying they did it when I know for a fact there was no crack when I dropped it off to them.

I have a 2004 astro van n it just started this same thing 2weeks ago n once it starts n I drive a mile n shuts off n diets n I have brought fuel pump n filter

I understand diagnosing but did you use starting fluid in order to see if it did start But yes checking pressure sounds like Electrical check spark nice video

I could tell the fuel pump was working so i did not, but also i have found with fuel injection starter fluid doesn't always work like with carbureted vehicles

I believe I’m getting misfires in addition to intermittent no start. So it looks like I’m just going to have to do all the spark plugs or do I just look for one that might be bad?

you should do them all i would have but i didn't have the time at that time , i have a vid finishing the rest . if your random no start is after its been driven then you might have a bad temp sensor as well ,i ended up doing that as well check out my playlist on this van.

@@JunkworksGarage Cool, thanks for the quick reply! Yeah, it was super sluggish and started stalling, very rough idle… so I changed filter and pump and I thought it was fixed. Started misfiring again and then stalling again. And I smell gas all the time and I read that it’s probably from the gas from the distributor not getting sparked .

@@JunkworksGarage And as far the temp sensor… you mean like if it starts and runs better in the morning and then gets worse the more I drive and the hotter it gets? Because that seems to be the case. Stalled and wasn’t wanting to start after getting off the freeway last night but I let it sleep and was able to get a few blocks to Autozone without having trouble.

@@JunkworksGarage Alright, I’ll watch that and see how it goes. I scanned for codes just now and nothing about spark came up. But said to replace fuel injector and MAF and EVAP. Should I trust these or still plan on spark plugs? Thanks for your help, I live in my van and I’m scrambling right now.

mine sat for a year now it dont go new batterie alternater has gas had to push it ihave a 2003gmc astro vanas well

Screw that, you are a mechanic, sometimes the dealership won't even change the broken parts. Going above is better than that.

after awhile i make shorter versions of my vids but if i start with those i get tooomany questions so i start by telling the hole story then shorten them up for people without patience .👍

Had the same problem would not start. Changed distributor cap and roter. Old one was all chalky and worn on the contact points. Now starts up just fine runs like a champ it's a 98. 187thousand miles and still kicken. Hope this helps? Ohh get the ac Delco parts. Good luck!
