I hope this is helpful as it has worked every time for Me .... So if You wish to avoid those toxic chemicals in the bug repellents You can use a mixture of Tea Tree oil drops, Citronella drops and olive oil ( to apply to skin) or instead of the olive oil put the drops in water in spray bottle to spray on skin and clothes. Mosquitoes hate Rosemary & lavender also ( as a side note) ☺️🌱

Absolutely love the fact that you use a "no name" tent from Target. You don't need to spend a lot or buy all these name brands to have a great time outside. Those Gazelle tents look great, but my Walmart Ozark Trail tents works fantastic and has held up for years.

Great video. To add my 2c on the phone; I use my phone as a library. It's filled with reference materials of all types, as well as apps for astronomy, navigation, etc. It's essential to have some way to determine if this or that plant is dangerous, medical info, etc. , even if you're a top-level mountainman bushwizard. Even EMTs and Search And Rescue people have reference materials on hand, because sometimes you just can't rely solely on your memory. It also helps you add to your knowledge right then and there, so you're less likely to forget look up that weird insect or mushroom days later when you return from the bush. Excellent addition to the list.

Mora knives are great. I have one that I made a handle for out of antler, blood wood (exotic wood that is naturally a crimson color) and a turquoise stone at the end of it. So I’m glad to see that there are a bit of people recommending a Mora. In an SHTF situation, or survival situation caused by what ever, would the vehicle also be used as a shelter?

I agree on the first aid kit, including a bandana. Something else that could be added are a few individually packaged moist towelettes. Sometimes those nature calls cannot always be fully attended to with just toilet paper. Moist towelettes can also be handy for a quick clean-up of hands to save water or in first aide situation. Whatever happened to that good ol EDC carabiner clip concept? There are several handy little items that can be easily accessible on one clipped either to your belt loop of pack. Nice video James!!

It's very interesting seeing people in different environments you're not familiar with. Most of the environments I am familiar with have more of a focus on waterproofing items but the fundamentals are usually the same as your environment. I try to stay away from the phone as a navigation device but having access to many reference sources without the corresponding hassle and weight of books can add to your outdoor experience and get you out of difficulties (though I still prefer Collins Gem books for foraging). I think phones as a learning aid are fantastic.

Headlamp. The lantern is nice, but if I had to pick one OR the other, it would be a headlamp. Ideally one with variable output, including a very low setting, and a red light option. I also prefer to be able to replace the batteries, rather than worrying about runningg the light down and whether I can recharge it. Fellow Texan here, and I agree 100% on a tent or hammock to avoid creepy crawlies. I canoed the Devils River years ago. We flipped the canoe once and I lost my sunglasses and hat. A hat with a brim all the way around it would be #11. Sunglasses would be somewhere in my top 20. Suncreen as well. I imagine that all three of these items would be lower on other people's lists, depending on where they were. Up north I imagine an axe is worth its weight in gold. I almost never enter the woods without a pistol. But then I'm usually by myself.

Hi junkyard Fox. It's been a while since I was on your Channel. Last time I spoke to you you were talking about a knife and I was talking about a large Boomerang shaped knife called a kukri. Hey brother we have just started getting into camping hiking over the last six months I came across your channel and have really enjoyed it. We do not have a lot of gear yet, picked up a little from garage sales and some stores I was wondering how important is a water filter? Is it better than boiling only? And what’s an affordable filter that covers all the bases? Maybe around $100.00 max.Hope you can help with this and thanks for the vids we are learning a lot of valuable information to improve our skills and our outdoor enjoyment.

Toilet paper! Ya damn city slicker sissy boy! Just use your left hand to scrap them brown nuggets of yer rear end like a real bushcrafter! Then smear it on your face like some tribal war paint to scare off them damn desert bandits. Hahaha! 😂 All joking aside, great video and great choices brother. Your video quality is top notch as well. I tip my hat to you good sir. I wasn't aware of that Hidden Woodsman French Trade bag. That looks like just the right size for some day hikes away from your base camp. Definitely going to check that one out. Thanks for making the video James. Sláinte!

Junkyard Fox I bet camping in the desert with him would have been a hell of a lot of fun.

How can you call yourself a youtube survival expert if you aren't sleeping in a hammock? It looks like you may need miles of cordage to find two trees to hang it from. Thanks for showing us survival in the southwest.

Instead of beer, I prefer marijuana, which requires no cooler or ice and weighs almost nothing. It’s legal here in Arizona.
