Whats your favourite VST in a box?? System-8 or Juno-X?? -JunoX has much better keybed and buildquality with much more modern effects. Way nicer overall experience, lots more layers and polyphony - sound not as deeply modelled. -System8 has a deeper interface with a more detailed and nuanced sound, but without the same 'playability' or quality to it. very light weight, keybed doesnt compare.

For the player (me) I have little practical use for the Sys8 framework. Any questionable (opinion) orientated sonic variable - for a lone unit - doesn't exist. Since in my case, it's a mix with numerous other artists. Depending on the absurdity of the lead guitarist; I am lucky if I am counted as present at all lol. But I will again commend you for drawing attention to the real elements Roland wanted to bring focus to - the user. People don't give enough credit to themselves as a variable. They are often too buried in the spec sheets to even take note. Of whether or not the writing on the page - will materialize into music at their fingertips. The phrasing; 'VST in a box' - and you'll have to forgive me, as I am Asian and not a native speaker - reads to us as to be worded as an insult. Not a descriptor. It's how Roland engineers will take it. Not because the unit cannot be compared as such. Rather; that the motive is not a statement in that light. It's also ignorant. Of the fact than Zen-C architecture was purposefully designed in a family nature; to link and augment devices. Not render them identical or waste your time or money. Just as Xm is a vastly different user target than the larger JX. So too is a performance homage with streamlined focus, different from them both again. It's not assumed that you will want all three. I use the reference, that the same applies to the different sizes of ASM Hydrasynth from neighboring HK. You can use multiple - and the engines indeed branch across devices. Would you say that the Desktop, Explorer or Deluxe of their units however are all meant for the same exact end user? Please see the units as individually purposed. For a very specific player. The addition of the family architecture; is to offer artists more. Both in a future facing away; as well as an enhancement on the unit/family that was before.

System 8 sounds like it has more sizzle and harmonics up high, where as the juno x has more harmonic richness, lushness and 'colour' in the mids. The juno x kinda sounds more transparent but flat while the system 8 is fatter and punchier. The system 8 has a beefier low freq but the juno x bass sounds more 'organic' and authentic - albeit weaker. They both have subtle digital sounding giveaways in different areas at times. Ultimately it's like they both have different pieces of the pie that they really nail it, so a combination of both theor strengths would be great. I really like how aggressive the 8 can sound, it's quite unique.

Well done as always, brother. Personally, I ADORE my System 8 and I honestly think it’s one of the best hardware synths of the last decade. I even have grown to love the look of it with the aluminum sides. It totally nails the soul of Roland’s analog icons, and it’s one stop shopping when I want a JP8, Juno 106, or Juno 60 - not to mention the System 8’s own native engine which is superb. Having said all that, I have really fallen hard for the new 3.0 update for the Jupiter X, which has left my jaw on the floor. It’s a whole new synth, and a fantastic one at that. Totally has its own merits. It’s easy to see that the Juno-X is the same story, and I could easily justify having all 3. 😁

You have great presentations! Which synth would you recommend to me System 8 or Sequential Take 5? I see that you have Prophet 6 and OB6, so they should be a bit similar to Take 5. Otherwise I have Jupiter Xm, but System 8 sound has more presence in some YT videos. One thing that makes me hesitate is that ppl who tried System 8 and Jupiter X or Xm and Juno X, say that FX section in System 8 is not as good as FX in Jupiter X/Xm and Juno X. In addition to that System 8 doesn’t have JX-8P emulation, which is one of my favorite synths in Jupiter Xm. It has JX-3p, but it’s limited comparing to JX-8P, which sounds very different - melancholic and dark and it’s excellent for lush pads, strings, analog pianos, bells etc. And JX-8P has more modulation possibilities than JX-3P and in some aspects even than Jupiter 8, because except to filter and amp, you can attach velocity to pitch, comparing to the other Roland classic synths that can be found as emulations in Jupiter X/Xm and Juno X. But on the other hand System 8 has SH-2 and System 100 mono synths as plug outs and since I don’t have any mono synth, maybe System 8 could cover me mono synths with mentioned plug outs. So I’m really confused what is better for me, System 8 or Take 5. Except Jupiter Xm, I have a Hydrasynth as well. So which synth would you suggest me System 8 or Sequential Take 5, or which synth do you personally like more System 8, or Sequential Prophet 6? And finally is the difference in sound between System 8 and Jupiter/Juno X really that huge? When I say difference in sound, I don’t mean only about emulations of classic synths, but sound quality in general. 🙂

The Juno X, or rather the Zen line have way more dynamics than the System 8 or ACB line. To me, and I have been complaining about this since I first got my hands on System 8 several years back, it sounds like someone forced its output through a brickwall limiter, making its dynamics sound completely lifeless and flat. I always added hardware expansion to compensate, but the Zen line, sounds full of life out of the box. Also Zens Condition and Pitch (digital aging/instability) controls are light-years beyond that of ACB, again a huge deal if you have ever actually owned or even played a real analog synth. To me the Juno is without a doubt the way to go, and if you aren't sure, do a roland cloud trial, and try the Zen Engine Juno, vs the ACB (System 8) Juno plugin. Both have identical code to their real counterparts, and I can almost bet within minutes you will see and feel what I mean. :) Also test out the Jupiter and others Zen vs ACB. Remember too with Juno X you also get many other modeled synths and a Rompler from hell!

How I see it, as a music performer, not a sound designer, they sound exactly the same to my ears. I did not hear any noticeable differences on my Yamaha HS8 (Studio monitors) So, what of them do I think is the better one? Personally, I would choose the Juno X (I already have one) because it can stack 4 parts + a drum part, and the superior polyphony. But then again, I perform on the STAGE LIVE! I need to be able to stack multiple sounds to make big rich interesting sounds. I use both the Juno X and Jupiter X (both have JD800 installed), RD2000, MODX+, Korg Nautilus, Hammond xk4 and Akai MPC Key 61 on stage. Also, when I play keyboard, I try spending most of my time playing on the white and black keys! And least time possible fiddling with the nobs... I find that very distracting! I use Camelot Pro to do the patch changes for me so I can focus on the actually important part... namely playing the MUSICAL INSTRUMENT. Just look at an acoustical piano. It's so simple. @@ErraticFaith LOLZ , I think I uderstand the technology perfectly well since I have been using the jd990, jv1050 , xv5080 and integra and all I can say is that zencore is an expanded pcm engine ( used in all their romplers ) + va waveforms and va filters and some reall cross modulation and osc sync

I think the 49 keys of the System 8 is the biggest limitation. Roland,when you model synths like the Jupiter 8, Juno 60, Juno 106, and others that originally had 61 keys, don't give us 49.
@ErraticFaith2 жыл бұрын
Our signature artists are amongst the best in the entire region; thanks to their knowledge and time taken to consider their requirements. You clearly know nothing about either, nor the fact that we build instruments - for those artists. Not vice versa. You can dispense with further patrionising western rhetoric however, I won't be bothering to reply further.

I know there’s I’m sure a huge temptation with comparing all the synths, but could you potentially think about a Prologue vs Juno x? Huge poly synths different vibes. Also- I’m waiting for someone to hop on a deepmind versus Juno x battle
@ErraticFaith2 жыл бұрын
Since Prologue is EOL. I am not sure there is much sense in doing so; the industry is moving on and people won't be able to easily acquire them (if at all). Not to discredit your preference - but we also want to see Truman advance (channel and association) which does demand a more 'concurrent' focus.

Sorry but i am tired of Roland, the same sound in different hardware, roland cloud, fantom, jupiter x, juno x system 8, ju06, ju06a, system 8, what else?. I only keep se02 and system 500, the only analog and surprise designed by other manufacturers. For Juno true analog sound i got the deepmind 12d

@dancarter55952 жыл бұрын
There's pretty much no discernible difference. Given the additional functionality of the JUNO-X, it's got to be that. To my ears it actually sounds the better of the two, which is most unexpected. I just hope they eventually release that model expansion for Jupiter-x. I don't have room for another big keyboard!

This model is already on the JupiterX..... im comparing the 106 models on the s8 and the jp...... but i think for sure they will enable the Juno60 model..... maybe not the JunoX model though?

As far as I am aware; the X model's will remain proprietary to their respective namesake's yes. In essence they are meant as a modern call forward of their lineage with enhancements coming from the shared family architecture and top-tier build.

The plug outs are all fuller sounding to me than the zencore expansions. However, you can’t leave the system-8’s native synth engine out of the equation. It’s killer. Dammit. Now I need to buy one again.

While I get the side by side comparison of these synths, it’s kind of pointless. Of course they are going to sound similar, especially if they are made by the same company. Most people won’t have both, so you get what sounds good to your ears. On stage nobody will ever notice if something sounds “a slight bit different”. The bigger question is, how user friendly is it, especially on stage.
@MRTUNA2 жыл бұрын
just helping people pick! sometimes its not about being on stage but purelly a connection to the instrument on a personal level. I am very happy to never ever perform on stage and keep my playing and instruments to the studio where i can share things virtually. my interactions with synths can be very intimate and thats where deciding between these two can be much harder.
@mrlionel19652 жыл бұрын
That’s cool, but I do perform and nobody will really notice any differences, unless they are side by side.

They obviously sound nothing alike......not the least bit, in any way. The System-8 sounds close to my 106. Pleasing to the ears. The Juno-X sounds like a mediocre vst. Very flat and bland. Don't really see the market for this other than the fake nostalgia. If someone wants a bland vst-in-a-box stage workhorse, get the Fantom.
