Bro I think this is your best video so far. It's funny as hell and you capture the 2 sides of the fanbase when arguing about, well, anything about Persona in general. The Persona1-2 old good new bad circlejerk, the P4 cult, P3 loonies, P5 fanbase that has only played P5, P4-P5 new good old bad discords, etc. You got them all here dude. Honestly I can't side with any of them since I'm always out there to roast or defend my favorite Persona game but when it comes to the music I'm very tolerant and I kinda like all of them some more than others but not the point I feel like straight up saying there's a bad OST out there. Every opinion yukari had in this video was completely and factually wrong. Persona 1 PSP fits the game better than the PS1 version. Persona 3 has some of the worst songs in the franchise. Now how about we get them to rate which one has the best story and characters? I know the presidents technically already did that but it would be funny to hear Yukari and Junpei's voices talk on it. Personally it's P3 for me story wise just because it felt like the ultimate middle ground of the 2 personas before and the 2 that came after. Mystery elements of P4, selfish adults elements of P5 as well as the ultimate reveal of being played, and the incomprehensible but godly beings of P1 and P2 who don't have this tired "humans can't think or make good decisions for themselves so we will do it because it's for the greater good" goal. They just wanna come in and f*** shit up. Character wise though it's P4's cast hands down. None of the games before or after have those genuine moment of friendship and let's be honest does anything trump the reenactment of the birth of Venus in P4G?

In my opinion, P5 can be the best sharing the chair with P3 because the soundtrack makes perfects symbiosis, and yeah, people over rates the battle themes and beneath the mask, but the P5 Instrumentals break and bench press the best songs of the other games, songs like ARK, The Final Layer of Mementos, The Overworld Themes like "So Happy World" and "The Thieves Den/No More What If's" give the most true and human experience you can get on chill, like, P3 can get true in terms of ambientation over the outside of your head, but P5 goes to the inside, or maybe the inverse, IDK

I'm not entirely sure how I'd rank them, but I guess these are my overall views at the moment: P1 (PSX) Atmosphere & Mood: S Composition (music theory and technical side of things): B Overall Song Quality (do the songs sound good): A Program Music-ness (how well the music fits context): S Overall thoughts: An atmospheric soundtrack that dances on the threshold of leaning into surreality and determined supernatural 90's action. Final boss theme is so dull, and the normal battle theme only has mood going on. P1 PSP Atmosphere & Mood: D Composition: B Overall Song Quality: B+ Program Music-ness: F Overall thoughts: J-Pop soundtrack with a much better final boss theme, but the new boss theme is a downgrade from the original. New battle theme borders on annoying, while the original one was forgettable outside of being a good mood piece. P2 (PSX/PSP) Atmosphere & Mood: A Composition: B+ Overall Song Quality: A Program Music-ness: A Overall thoughts: Hard hitting battle themes, numerous good area themes and an overall consistent 90's supernatural action tone. Just wish the major boss theme also had a melody instead of just being accompaniment. P3 Atmosphere & Mood: A Composition: B+ Overall Song Quality: A Program Music-ness: B+ Overall thoughts: The best final boss theme in the whole series, which is no surprise seeing as it is an electronic rock remix of Aria of the Soul. Shadow boss theme is dull, major boss theme is neat but doesn't sound like a big boss theme. The map theme changing two times was fantastic, especially when the final month theme kicks in for the first time. Oh yeah, The Answer has Heartful Cry which is nice and the P3P has... I think it had a neat new boss theme. P4 Atmosphere & Mood: C+ Composition: A Overall Song Quality: A Program Music-ness: B Overall thoughts: Best normal boss theme in the series so far. Almighty is also one of the best boss themes, but it's weird we barely get to hear the other boss themes in the game. The final boss theme is especially a long boring build up towards a very basic reprise of a leitmotif. Area themes are also quite meh until Heaven.. and then it goes back to meh. P5R Atmosphere & Mood: B+ Composition: S Overall Song Quality: A Program Music-ness: A Overall thoughts: Fantastic acid jazz that Meguro has teased us with over the years. It's like he was preparing to go all out with it just for this game. So many excellent area, cutscene and scenario themes, while boss themes are kinda just alright overall. Rivers in the Desert does feel properly built up, but then the final boss theme comes and sounds oddly basic. Cool start, then just basic action drama that builds up to.. three notes for climax. P5R's new final boss theme is much better.

I have played only persona 3 and 4 vanilla. I prefer P3. If we're talking soundtracks, I think P3 is both the most "persona- like" and most iconic for the most part. I like P4's, but , just like in the vid, it doesn't really fit the "mistery vibe" of the game (that it should have). With P5's, haven't played it, but I do notice that most of the popular/most loved soundtracks are the vocal themes (like last surprise and time will change).

Personally I think the instrumental pieces fit the mystery part and the school/daytime themes fit the laid back small town vibe the game has, all the songs have a warm feeling even “I’ll face myself” the regular version used for sad parts has an uplifting guitar rift in it like these moments are part of growing up and becoming an adult. Yeah I'm somewhere between them both. P5 had awesome songs across the board, P4 I adored the music vibe, but personally it's the game of the series I don't want to play. P3 rides equal to P5. Just getting into P2 myself and it's really growing on me so fast I love it. And then there's 1. They're both kinda right on both fronts. I don't love or hate it, but it really works. since i saw others do it, *IMO* out of 10 *P1 PSX/PSP: 8/7.5* -- while I do think overall PSP is lesser, the few good tracks shine way brighter than the best of psx soundtrack so they are close, my favorites are PSX Hypno Tower, PSP SEBEC and Mikage Police Station *P2 IS/EP: 9.5 IS/10 EP* -- P2 is admittedly the closest to perfect when it comes to OST with EP having the slight edge, IS's op Unbreakable Tie is easily a top 2 opening track, that and EP Club Zodiac are my favorites *P3F: 8.5* -- some tracks are some are okay, and some tracks go hard, undoubtedly the best final boss track aside from a couple other modern tracks, my favs are Master of Tartarus and Changing Seasons *P4G: 9.5* -- saw someone here say the mood was the weakest aspect. I disagree and say that's more of a fault on the game's theming and plot end, P4's soundtrack reflects the mood the rest of the game intends perfectly. Would be up there with EP but the P4 battle track isn't the best and P4G's is annoying after a while. The favs are the Pursuing My True Self, Snowflakes and Heaven. *P5R: 9* -- obviously the most overplayed, but the consistency is the best here as in there's not really a track I could dislike, tho I will say the royal battle track is a very big step down. However, a lot of tracks that come up with Maruki's arc are easily some of the best out of the modern series. Favs are Sweatshop, Jaldabaoth, and Throw Away Your Mask as a bonus, call it recency bias but the P3R battle theme hasn't even come out in full original quality and I find it far better than any other game's battle tracks in the series. Even if the quality isn't good for it right now I can still proudly say I've been listening on loop lol
