Why is this 29 year old movie the best one in the film franchise? Why can’t even the direct sequel directed by Spielberg himself and the other films in this series live up to this one’s success? Why do the other films lack the magic of this film?

Will give you my view: in this film like 70% of the time you don’t see the predators, you only feel how voracious they are (think about the raptors cage) . More importantly you have a perception that the park is not that solid because you feel that these creatures cannot be controlled. And when ectricity goes off your expectations are overcome by stunning cgi. The trex scene is still crazy beautiful

Would've opened sure. It was doomed from the start. If not Nedry it'd be someone/something else. Malcolm says this in the movie. They can't control life. There was also breeding going on prior to the power outage as dinos already escaped their paddocks. Grant found eggs in the movie. JW failed for the same reason. Wu is not a God he was careless and blind to it. Hammond and him were arrogant.

30 years ago Jurassic park changed film making forever. It was 3 years after Crichton published the first book and Spielberg did a fantastic directing it and the sequel thanks to Crichton who wrote the second book 1995 when I was a little baby . Jurassic park will always be my childhood dinosaur movie.

People in theatres saw the dinosaurs in realistic, never-before-seen CGI. No stop-motion clay models or men in godzilla suits. When the brachiosaurus lumbered across the screen we felt the same amount of awe as the characters onscreen witnessing a real-life dinosaur. When grown men watched the Rex stomping towards Lex’s flashlight they gripped their armrests. And when adults saw two raptors slink in through the kitchen door they had nightmares for weeks.

It was great because of the story and characters. The scenes were memorable because we had attatchment to the characters. The long, tense scene in these clips is amazing because of the characters (and how well the actors portrayed them). At the core, every scene in Jurassic Park is engaging no matter if there is a dinosaur in it or not. The sequels have all just been dinosaurs with token human characters, with no substance, thrown in.

It's remarkable that Spielberg originally wanted 0 CGI, but ILM did such groundbreaking work that he flat out used CGI for the very first dinosaur to appear.

The magic of this movie never wanes. There should be a neurological reason to it. Even though we have all seen dino movies over and over and over, the cinematography gives enough breathing space, focuses long enough on the actors faces, who themselves are so good in their performance, so beautifully, that we feel the wonder again and again through their experience. The shots in those first scenes are simply brilliant, showing the dinosaur from the feet up through towards the sky, conveying it's sheer size, in broad clear daylight. Not even a single shot of that type exists in the new trilogy. There is simply no breathing space, no time to pause, we have got no time to feel anything for more than a moment. What a waste!

None of the other versions beat the first version. We still feel thrill, suspense, storyline etc. TRex is looking scary only in the first part. In the recent versions it has become pet and kind.
