Jurassic Park Filming Locations - 30 Years in the Making - Episode Four - Amber Mine - Kauai

In this episode we jump in our jeep and once again head to towards the Jungle of Kauai. We are on a mission to locate the filming location for the Jurassic Park Amber Mine scene, which is actually known as Ho'opi'i Falls. It requires a bit of a hike but it is worth every step. We then drive west to the other-side of Kauai to try and locate more Jurassic Locations.
Throughout this series I visit many of the Jurassic Park film locations armed with my 30 year old cinema ticket, some original Jurassic Park 35mm film cuttings and my collectors card from childhood, and, oh yes, my awesome wife too!
19 August 1993 was a bigger day in my life than I realised at the time. It was of course the day I went to see Steven Spielberg's Jurassic Park. The movie has dictated my life journey in many ways since and installed my passion for filmmaking, so much so, at age of 39 I left a long career to re-train as a filmmaker.
Anyway, part of my childhood obsession was a book called The Making Of Jurassic Park by Don Shay & Jody Duncan. I read this book cover to cover and absorbed all of its content about the various stages of filmmaking. It was in this very book that I feel in love with not only filmmaking, but the film locations and made it my life mission to someday visit the Hawaiian locations.
I could not think of any better time than the Jurassic Park 30th anniversary this year (2023), so we packed our bags and headed to Hawaii. If you have read this you're probably a massive JP fan like me, so please join us on our adventure!

Jurassic Park is my favorite of all time!!! Just moved to Kaua’i a year ago and the Jurassic Park history here is definitely an added bonus. I still have some places to go see yet. Thank you for sharing your experience!! I can never get enough of Jurassic Park. I do Uber here on island and people love hearing all the facts about Jurassic Park!!!!

WOW!! You moved to Kauai, that is so cool! I bet Uber is great actually, most of the value I take away from travel (especially in Hawaii) was the interesting and friendly folk I met! Being a JP fan and living on Kauai is such an awesome existence! I still have my original copy of The Making of Jurassic Park, I have not read the Crash Mcreery book... would like to though. There is a show on Netflix about Jurassic Park... think it is called The Movies that Made Us, it is worth a watch if you have not seen it

Loved it - another fantastic episode! Just got back from Kauai and was sad we didn't get to visit any new JP locations... that was until I saw your video. On day 3 of our trip, we went on a "nature hike" to a waterfall with a river next to it. I had NO IDEA this was the Amber Mine scene from the movie! Imagine my joy when I arrived home and realised I actually filmed in one of the JP locations. Once again THANK YOU for providing such awesome content!

Astounding video!! I still remember my mom and dad taking me and my brother to see the movie in 1993. I was 7 and my brother was 5 at the time. I collected everything like you, including the "Jurassic park the ultimate visual history" book.
