This was my video shot in 1997 on SVHS. I was concerned about water damage to the camera which you can see during the video. I wanted the ride recorded so much that I took the chance this one time and luckily the ride worked flawlessly. I remember these days so well. This ride was the awesome attraction if it's time.

This is kind of sad to watch, you'd think with almost two decades worth of technology the ride would only look better now, not worse. The snappiness of the movements on those spitting dinos was incredible, the truck actually fell AND it fell at a believable speed, and the tongue action on that t-rex was really lifelike! Until this video, I'd always assumed the clunky movements of the ride's dinos were a product of its time, clearly they're a product of neglect. :(

The big problem with using animatronics, is the fact that they are using them in water. Water naturally rusts metal no matter how well coated/ painted/ and lubed the metal objects are. Unfortunately, over time, attractions like these need major rehauling and rework in order to restore the fluid movements that they once had. I get it. The amount of maintenance work that a ride like this requires is beyond immense I'm more then positive. I rode this back when I was about 7 or 8 I want to say. Right when the ride came out. Watching this video brings back such fond memories. Makes me want to go and visit once again.
@TheGrayMysterious8 жыл бұрын
The 2016 refurb made the animatronics somewhat better than they've been the last couple years. Hell, they finally got the falling Jeep working again, and a couple dinosaurs have brand new skins, so how's as good a time as any to go.
@rickyhyppa79606 жыл бұрын
Meh, Disneyland has had this dilemma since they opened in 1955 with the Jungle Cruise, and they're pretty cheap when it comes to maintainence, and although the animatronics in this attraction are far more sophisticated, that's why we pay good money for the pass!
@matthewdavid34095 жыл бұрын
I honestly think with a ride like this there probably needs to be the understanding that the ride is never completely finished. Every year they might as well rotate and give each dinosaur a refurb or a replacement. It makes sense to keep your rides in their prime if you want to have people come visit.

@@derekthompson6653 stop it lol The ride was the definition of jank by the time they remodeled. It’s my favorite all time ride and it hasn’t had every effect work at 100% for well over a decade. The last time I remember the Explorer set piece work was pre 2012. It was either commit to a rebranding or destroying the ride and replacing it with something else, which was never going to happen. The latest additions post 2020 make the ride far superior. I miss the aesthetic of a park falling apart but otherwise it’s a very worthy successor that has everything more or less working. The middle portion still is way too quiet even after the new animatronic, but is otherwise a great attraction

This video compared to the actual ride that I've been on recently: -Animatronic dinosaurs didn't look very stiff -the "spitting" dinos were faster and smoother - The Raptors were very "realistic' looking (the skin on them looked scalier) -The T-rex head was actually bit LOWER than today -Fog effects were there -There was dramactic music before the drop -The main T-rex had an awesome skin design The ride today, doesn't quite have any of this listed anymore. What happened universal?

999haunted The water got to the animatronics fast and they didnt want to put the money into constantly making them look their best
@BluJayMix5 жыл бұрын
Yes, putting the T-Rex behind all the water (waterfall AND fog) was a bad idea. They could still hang the T-Rex but what they could've done was exactly what the people in Japan did in their version, which was hide the T-Rex behind the shadow, seconds before the lights turn on and point at it. That was a very smart idea.
@jaydeleon80945 жыл бұрын
999haunted you forget rules changed. Lots of the stuff was deemed unsafe or a risk, so they had to use limiters. And of course the animatronics were the same, without replacing the entire frame, they don’t last long, especially exposed as these were to water and weather.

The original end drop was an exercise in epic timing! The waterfall, the slight rise as the water stops, t-rex coming at you with his loud scream, and as your attention is on t-rex, the drop...perfect! 👍🏻

This ride is a far cry from its glory days. In 2003 I had my first Islands of Adventure trip; Spider-Man and Jurassic Park were immediate rides. The crew don't even try to hide mama Rex anymore, you see her from like 30 feet before you drop. I remember being 9 and crapping myself on the final drop.

Well it falls right next to people so they can’t get any of the guests on the ride injured. The one in Universal Orlando Resort also used to have a falling Jurassic Park Ford Explorer but then it was replaced with a crate which is like supposed to have a Velociraptor inside it, so the crate shakes and then it falls until it’s like two inches above the people’s heads

I wish the ride was still like this, they made it so good that the riders came out looking actually terrified, and that's the good thing and showed that it was successful. The one that just opened you can see all the fake and chunky movements of the animatronics and its not scary. When thar car fell in this one, it almost fell on top of them which was so awesome.if I wanted to go on this ride I want to go on this version

It's kinda sad that these Dinosaurs are getting so old that it's hard for them to move as they use to back in the 90s. What Universal should have done is fixed up the same dinosaurs to move as they did back then and maybe put in 1 or 2 new ones. This also could have matched up with the release of Jurassic World, but sadly no. Universal doesn't care about authenticity anymore It's all about the money. Anyway's even if the ride is getting a bit old I still think it's the best ride out there.

Apparently, Universal Studios refurbished Jurassic Park the Ride back in Early Winter of 2016 but only added a fog machine to the opening scene, this proves that Universal Studios still doesn't care about how this attraction is gonna survive or it's affect on future generations to come, they need to actually give a shit and go in there and fix this mess of a ride before it's popularity decreases to a point where they will be forced to close it down in replacing some stupid ride like Despicable Me. Jurassic has so much potential

All of the timing and animatronic movements were so spot-on and spectacular! I never have seen this ride like this before since I first rode it back around 2004. I wish it could still be like that, but now even the spitting dinos don't even pop up - they just stand and spit slow streams while the car "falls" slower than gravity.

I think it's obvious to say that the fluid movements from the ride before has rusted up in such a short amount of time. What went from counting the different types of dinosaurs, my brother and I now count how many times the dinosaurs movements are delayed and if they're even able to blink. Hopefully the "refurbishment" does this ride justice.

There was supposed to be a Jurassic Park themed park in Texas that was going to be built in the early 2000’s but after 9/11 happened some of the inverters actually died from the attack, after that the rest of the investors pulled out and the park was canceled.
