Jurassic World: Dominion - Dilophosaurus Sound Effects

The return of the Dilophosaurus caused the most excitement for Al Nelson and Gary Rydstrom, Jurassic Park's sound designer, who originated the dinosaur's memorable hoots. Nelson dipped back into the "full palette of Dilophosaurus sounds" that Gary had created for the 1993 original, including "some that had never really seen the light of day"
The sounds of the Dilophosaurus came from various sources. The hooting sounds it made were created from a swan, a baby ostrich and a dog while the screeches it made when preparing to spit were created from a mixture of a hawk, howler monkey. The rattling of its frill was also created from a rattlesnake.
When we first meet the Dilophosaurus, it cocks its head at Dennis Nedry and lets out an appealing trill. “Made from a swan,” revealed Gary Rydstrom. “Swans make a cute hooting sound, so the cute version of the Dilophosaurus sounds like a swan, for the most part.” He chuckled. “Part of the fun of doing these kind of jobs is that I had no idea what a swan sounded like before!”
Of course, things quickly escalate with the Dilophosaurus as it grows a fearsome cowl and expectorates all over its prey. “When it’s the scary spitter, there’s definitely a rattlesnake sound in there as it fans out its canopy around its head, and the raspy sounds in its voice are from a hawk,” said Rydstrom.

James Beavers might think the fiest sound is a creaky dooe, but I like it instead if the usual curious hoot, the creature is actually growling, letting us hear it's true sounds

More info, the squeaking sounds are Australian Black Swan, the trilling sounds are baby ostriches, and I am near certain the hawk used for the hiss is a Harris' Hawk

How did you manage to figure out all the animal sound formulas when you extracted the sounds from each dinosaur movie ?

I usually look for the interviews with the creators of those sounds - sound designers - but when they're abscent, I just rely on my ears and experience of listening animal sounds. I only write down the ones I'm 101% sure of.
