1 reason why I'm certain it will work is because you guys are dedicated to grow to the next level. You've achieved a lot last two decades, and we see more U.S. players in Europe. Klinsmann is a great guy with a lot of experience who can hopefully bring some success :D

Great press conference. He put to rest a lot of the concerns that I had about him as a coach. He seems well grounded and pretty well accustomed to US soccer.

I was born in Costa Rica, but I've lived in the US since I was 9. It always felt like I was better then most kids, but colleges only looked at the kids that were born in the US. Every time I played I always scored, though I've been told this countless times, I never got the chance to go pro. I hope for Americans to realize that this country became great because people left their home land in order to become part of something greater and become a better person, our Soccer should reflect that!!!

@AchillesForce that makes sense, because the majority of the US national team was either born over seas and raised here. The Us doesn't discriminate anymore this isnt the 60-70's.

During the 2002 World Cup, the USMNT played a German-style of soccer. Maybe Jurgen Klinsmann can revive that.

I am impressed. I've seen Klinsman around in Orange, California. Not only does he live in the US, but he has been exposed to the diversity of both the people and the game. Glad he acknowledged the Hispanic/Latin influence; he must have been to a park in SoCal. Soccer culture from the park to college is complicated and hope Reyna and Klinsman can get some chemistry going.

@11soccerchris You're right. I think in order to get better the MLS has to cancel the draft system so that the teams can build youth academys to develop young players just like we do in Europe

@ev8585 Klinsmann helped design a new player development and performance center for Bayern and then launched into molding the team for the Bundesliga and UEFA Champions League campaigns. Under his guidance, Bayern reached the quarter final of the Champions League, losing to eventual champion FC Barcelona. Bayern’s record during the 2008/2009 UEFA Champions League was 6 wins, 3 draws, and 1 loss (to Barcelona). Wikipedia wasnt really a total loss

it was Low not Klinsmann that put Germany in the bronze place in 2006. Klinsmann was like a Maradona in Argentina, as a sympholic person.

@slugicide I think you are off topic. What you are talking about are fans. In addition to being a US fan, I'm also a Mexico fan. AchillesForce was referring to the lack of opportunity he had as a player in the US. There are players like Joe Corona and Jose Torres (MexAmericans) who more opportunity in Mexico to go pro than here. The college system and pay to play youth academies are set up for privileged kids. Even Clint Dempsey who grew up hard had his mom travel far for his academy practice.

@slugicide As for the fan loyalty of Latino/MexicanAmericans, I have to say that a majority of US fans I had seen at the Gold Cup final in Pasadena were Latinos. I have a theory as to why Mexican Americans (even American born) love the Mexican team more than the US. It's partly because that's just the team they grew up loving. But I also think it's because many don't see "themselves" in the US team. The talent is here in the US, it just needs to be taped.

@zackboum they dont have to cancel the draft what they have to do is look at lower income players that dont get scouted that for the most part are better than the kids in the academy i no cause i would of been in they academy but i can pay

@bustin4545 he also never was close to the top of the table of the bundesliga during his time at bayern, and the team barely qualified for the champions league that season. For a team like Bayern, the class and standard of German Soccer, that is a horrendous position to be in. I will give him credit for his time as german national coach, although not being able to win a world cup on home soil with a talented squad, still doesn't speak volumes of his ability.

@AchillesForce lol, BS. Maybe it's because you had the mentality that you were "better than most kids." There are many foreign-born people who get into college and go pro in the US. Part of the quintessential American attitude is to not make excuses for yourself.

No matter what coach the US gets they will never be close to brazil argentina mexico or any other great national team until they really focused in the youth soccer players and get streets players and less of the college guys that are 22 and pretty much gave up soccer and will not be in any top European soccer team

you think just cause he was a great player he will make a great coach for the USMNT? He had success with Germany in 06 but much of that can attributed to Low. Non of you american soccer "fans" seem to remember his time as the head coach for Bayern Munich a few years ago. It was a complete and utter disaster and he was fired before the season ended. Jurgen is a good motivator not a great coach. Most of the worlds best managers/coaches were usually not the greatest players.
