I was on jury selection once and there was one lady desperately trying to get out of it. It was a murder trial, and she said she couldn't be impartial because she had been a victim of violence herself. The judge asked her to describe what happened, and she basically said something about how one time someone didn't hold a door for her and she got hit by the closing door. She then tried to play dumb and said she didn't understand "innocent until proven guilty" because if the guy got charged with murder, he obviously must be guilty of something. The judge yelled at her and basically said she would not be excused for acting like an idiot. I don't know if she got selected at the end, but when I got dismissed, they only had two more people to get rid of, and she was still there. 🤷‍♂️

@@apriljk6557 it also depends where you live. I live in a big county, where the pool of jurors is really big, so even if you act in good faith, your odds of getting picked are like 15%. If you live in a smaller county, particularly where the cops know everyone, your odds of getting dismissed in a case brought by a cop you don't personally know are miniscule, regardless of how much of an asshole you're being.

judges don't make charging decisions, prosecutors do, and mistrials have nothing to do with how the defendant pleads, the whole point of a trial is for the judge or jury to determine whether they're guilty or not
