Sorry, just heard you keep the mosquito fish in there. I want to dig out something for my spotties, and wasn’t sure if I should be moving the water.

My vernal pool ponds don’t have filtration , I do have a lot of plants in them and the mosquito fish thrive in them conditions. But they also do well in the filtered ponds

If I made a vernal pool here in Michigan, how deep should I make it for turtles during the winter? I make my ponds atleast 2.5ft deep and aerate them during the winter. I'm not sure if the same would apply to this, being it would filled with substrate.

Yeah I think I’d do at least 30 inches for that Michigan frost line . It gets pretty cold out that way . Or at least run a powerful air stone in the colder months just so it doesn’t freeze over .
