cause we're naturally pre-disposed to consider other peoples opinions to increase social cohesion, the problem is in real life 99% of people act in good faith and are reasonable whereas online the 1% not only tends to migrate to but also is emboldened. if someone says you're shit, you feel bad because irl that'd be a rare occurrence and you would likely be doing something wrong to get that comment or you'd visibly see the other person was unhinged and so you'd know that what was wrong was on their end. online you can't see that and it's incredibly common.
