Give it a shot! You might be surprised. And starting w/ a shirt/ blouse that the buttons & button holes are already there, even if you close them like this pattern it looked nice. And your eyes kind of travel bk to them & not so much on another part that wasn’t your best effort till you get better skills. Considering the cost of fabric & buttons you could have little or no money (if you got it from your closet) to give it a try❤

There's ways to extend this if it's too short... Adding white to the bottom would have a faux "slip" effect... Or if u found let's say two small shirts on clearance, that's just as much fabric to play with as one big one would be

Just use a larger shirt. Your largest measurement… bust, belly or hips to the chest measurement of the shirt. Tip: If a little fuller figure get a straight cut shirt. The tapered ones just don’t fit our curves. ❤

My mom had an old clipping from a magazine from when I was a child, that showed how to turn a man's shirt into a little girl's sleeveless sundress. Very similar to this design. I made our daughters a number of these when they were very young. Very easy, and there always seemed to be a man's old shirt around (use one from a family member who didn't need it any more, or buy one cheap from a thrift store) so it saved money on fabric yardage.

Very nice! I’ve been trying…for YEARS….to figure out a way to re-purpose men’s shirts into sleeveless tank tops for summer. Clever to use the sleeves as a yoke! I’d have to come up with something other than the skinny straps - but your lesson here is a great starting point for my own project….thanks!💕

This is gonna read like a novel but gotta say this. 1st of all think this little dress is very cute. As a seamstress of 50+ yrs, now mostly bridal & formal dresses, I know it can be done. I would have probably added a little fabric & lined the bodice. But there was a time when I didn’t have much. So for some sewers w/ lack of knowing or lack of supples… not terrible w/ this design to be unlined. I nearly went crazy with some of the comments. So I watched this video about 5x’s & stopped it frequently. I do believe that 2 shirts were used “but” only for the purpose of not stopping the making of the video if an error was made. When the front bodice & skirt are about to be stitched to the bk, the front bodice pc & the skirt pc are definitely to different color’s & could account for 2 different shirts being used… the pcs of one switched for the other. Dye lots do change. * This is a small size, but for a larger size dress … larger size shirt, not rocket science!! * I just measured my 12 yr old granddaughter, 31 bust & 27 waist. The “cut” skirt panel measured 17x23, true it had gathering below the bust but would be wide enough to cover the hips. * When the collar is cut away the portion that becomes the skirt has 5 buttons. So does the finished dress. * Great idea to use a printed fabric, if your a beginner, or especially if using a smaller size shirt where you need to utilize most of the shirt. It’s a little busy so over lapping or indifferences definitely not noticeable at a glance. *** The only thing that I did wondered about was why the 3-4 in wide pc was added down the R side of the skirt when the same amount was initially trimmed from ea side, hence the 17 in width?? ❤❤Well my little designer your dress is very cute & I think my granddaughter & I are shopping for some shirts in grandpa’s closet tomorrow. She loved it too!❤❤

I was also suspicious. At about 6:40, I noticed a difference. But then I went back and compared buttons and counted dots. I couldn't find a discrepency. BUT where did the lining come from? Towards the end of the video, the bottom part of the dress appears to have a plain colored lining.

The end product is not the same shirt she started out with. Obviously switched to something larger or used fabric left over from when she sewed the shirt. Note that the shirt did not have any tags so it was homemade.
