Just discovered the frame is twisted ❌

We need to bring in our frame table so that we can nail the chassis down to the table. Once it's nailed down, we can start welding in the new x brace with the hope that it will straighten everything back to normal. Nate is modifying the front end wishbone so that we can have it run along the chassis.

in my opinion you should have removed factory x brace in one piece,,then nail chassis flat ,then reinstall factory cross piece in its original place. your new crossbrace isnt going to hold chassis.its going to allow more warpage [and flex as the chassis is much more weaker now] as the engine torques chassis under power..its only an opinion sir

You need another piece of I Beam on the table, to have a good solid straighting rack. Not a hater, but I worked 15 years in a Commercial Class 7 Truck/Trailer shop, with a 12 inch I Beam straightening rack. We only used 7018 low hydrogen Stick Welding rod, to repair frames, no Mig welding its not strong enough tensile strength. But as Chad says its only a Hot Rod, not like a Commercial Truck.

Put the frame back as it was originally. Its way less work. A frame jig doesn't hold the frame square. The welder does this.

Inspection? I don’t think any of the structural change on these cars is scrutineered but by an engineer. Maybe not required where Chad is? Illegal in Australia to be not approved by an engineer.

As you can see by looking in his shop, none of his projects can pass an inspection, he still has the "give away" car they built on the TV show to give away to a fan of the show, as w as every other project he has worked on, lol, the only vehicles leaving his shop are the "future" projects he sells before he has "worked" on them ... Impossible to get it straight with the chassis not square on the table. Side rails should be parallel to the side beams and bar you welded across should be perpendicular to side beams on table.

Soo, you don't think it is worth if to make a nice old 30s classic coupe body "all shiny" ? Gotta say that is disappointing news. You have the skill, facilities, and equipment to paint it up real pretty; or at least sandblast it off and stop the rust and preserve it. If you hate painting, let Doug do it. ​@@Davey-Drums Those new X braces should also have been let go before nailing the frame to the table....Chances are they are now causing more upwards pressure after forcing the frame down - and as others have commented they are not fit for purpose because they are not attached to the bottom of the frame. But this is Chad's project, he always does things his way and so I will continue to watch with interest.

They like to do things the hard and wrong way. Gives them a warm feeling of accomplishment. Our frame fab shop doesn't clamp the rails , if clamped it cant grow and shrink back as a good welder applys the heat proportionately. That X brace he cobbled is a problem.

He could take the twist out of the front of the rails with a floor jack and simple anchors. Using a tram gage and measuring tape he could make sure it's square before reinforcing it. It would be a little time well invested. That said, this will be an awesome build.

I would suggest at least making sure the frame table is level to start with.. going around all 4 sides and shimmimg where necessary to level it out.. then when u just weld the frame itself to the table u know for sure its level.. if your table isnt sitting level all around then u dont know for sure whats out of square

Weld sum all thread with cpl nuts to the bottom so can use the all thread to adjust the table to level it out

You can find the frame dimensions on line took me two minutes to find them at least take some measurements and see where your at . Sublet the frame to good body shop and have then repair it

Even welded to the table the front horns still look off. I believe the front frame support is where the twist is and if cut and re-welded it would sit right.

He probably welded the rectangular cross bars while it was on those nappy assed shredded tires which in turn set the frame in the twist. So now he is now saying "we have a twisted frame" Chad you should have put the frame on your "table" and set it square, then started cutting and welding stuff. No one saw you weld the cross bars in so basically you created a problem you are going to fix for all of us to watch. Keep up the good work.

Easy fix, pie cut the twisted rail at the point where the Z was added, spread the "crust end" of the cut, fabricate solid blocking for the insides of the Z notch, fill the pie cut back in👍

You should make the table level on all 4 corners prior to checking and tacking frame to it. Maybe the 1” off is due to the bed dropping in one corner due to uneven floor.

Why would you square up a frame (or attempt to) with an axle welded to it???? Ever stop to think that the axle might be the problem??? Then weld in the bracing before the frame is welded to the table...
