Prefacing this with the fact that I fully agree with the points made in the video, and think it’s absurd to attack people for a speech impediment, but, when speaking a foreign language, I think it’s probably better to speak slowly and deliberately, making sure you’re getting the words right, than to speak quickly and stumble over the words you’re not sure of. It’s the difference between, ‘Let’s go eat, Boss!’ and ‘Let’s go eat Boss!’

@@MisterIncog that’s as valid a choice as any, but, as a native speaker with a language comprehension issue, I’m not gonna understand a word you say. I think you saying that you learned to “mask” your stutter around 7 years old is very very eye opening to me. Cause as an adult, I’ve been slowly unmasking my autism and just myself in general as well and with it, my stutter has GREATLY come back and I find myself getting onto myself and being very mean mentally about myself when I stutter and it’s unfair to me. If I’m gonna let myself unmask, I need to let my speech unmask too ✨
@TheDragonMamma

I’m also making the autism journey in adulthood, best of luck! I was pep talking myself on my back porch yesterday about it being ok for me to unmask and display stimming. I have ADHD and an anxiety disorder, and I’ve found that just letting my legs bounce is VERY comforting. ❤

The fact that people need to mask stuttering is absolutely WILD to me. Of course I understand why people do that, I just mean that it’s awful there are even any people who would act out negatively when talking to a person with stutter (therefore making this person mask). Like literally soulless monsters with no empathy, I cannot fathom what goes on in a head of someone who would bully a stuttering person. Like is it just lizard brain working, saying “mild annoyance = lash out” or something, like literally are you a dog or something if you think like that.
@transsnack
@transsnack Ай бұрын
@@MisterIncogwhat's really weird to me is how hard it's pushed to try and mask a stutter. Like... there are entire words in the English language that I don't say because I tend to stutter when (technically before, my stutter hits between words) I say them. And my stutter isn't even that bad, it just makes my speech sound oddly spaced out sometimes. I'm more likely to notice my stutter than anyone around me. But it's still been drilled into my skull that my stutter is a flaw that I must "fix".

So much of this cliche, shitty bullying clings to life online because people think there's no consequence, and it's so much easier to dehumanize somebody you only know from seeing on a screen. I watched this ~25 times, it really spoke to me. A few years ago I was giving a flash photography presentation in front of about 40 people when my mind went blank and I forgot what an umbrella was, even though i was holding one in my hand. I ended up holding it up and asking what it was called so i could continue, something hollered out umbrella and I was good. One of my friends was in the audience and heard some hens clucking about how I was up there high on drugs. In truth I was having a seizure BECAUSE I didnt take my drugs(meds) so I'd be more clear headed for my presentation. The repeated flashes didn't help. Even though I had no reason to, it still made me feel like shit and it wasnt until after covid lockdowns that I gave another presentation and even then I keep going back to that headspace so they've gone to crap. I used to love doing those. Few and far between now. Sorry you went through this shit my friend.

Honestly, I never realized it was a stutter because your way of speaking feels very deliberate and thoughtful. It reads to me as if you are choosing your words mindfully and have an authentic interest in what you are saying. The little pauses feel like you are giving the viewer time to think opposed to stereotypical youtubers who speak extremely fast to stuff as much content into their video as possible and encourage mindless consumption. I feel like in our current social media landscape people are used to perfect and smoothed out content opposed to seeing a video about a person speaking authentically about something, so some people act hostile to things they deem "imperfect".

I’ve had a stutter my whole life-it can get worse when I’m particularly stressed or meeting a new/unfamiliar person, but around people I’m used to talking to I can rant pretty much stutter free sometimes-though I’m still apt to talk really fast. Besides stress, some days my stutter is meaner than others-one time I was trying to order froyo, and stuttered so bad that I got stuck on the “f” and just sounded like I was deflating with a “ffffff.” I then panicked and blurted out “I’m sorry! I practiced in my car!” and internally cringed at myself so hard. I completed the fro yo quest but not without some embarrassment 😂. If I’m doing an especially goofy voice, usually my stutter/voice speed is less bad, so sometimes if I’m using the voice command on the remote I’ll do that so that it can understand me. My and your experience with an actual stutter aside, even a fake stutter is fine-in looney tunes, a whole bunch of the characters have various speech impediments, which helps to make them really vocally distinct and recognizable.

I’ve never even noticed the stutter! I assume English isn’t your first language, love the accent and I’m mostly paying attention to your art! ❤

I’ve always thought of this guy as the helpful freindly teacher/mentor type of person but hearing him curse like that, wow, it was a shock. Like when the nice teacher gets pissed at a class.

Super Eye Patch Wolf did a n excellent video essay on this topic. 10 out of 10, and he had a moment where he had the same type of commentary where he even showed the script he was working from and the teleprompter that was telling him all the things to say. Even the parts where he would say that the teleprompter was telling him all the things to say to say. To discuss how distorted reality is in this streamer viewer relationship

My boyfriend has a stutter and he masks it but I love him and his stutter. It makes him cuter in my opinion because he always sounds so serious and cold and his stutter is a different side of him that I just wanna hug and eat up.

What a lot of people don't realize, is a speech impediment isn't something you can fix, it's something you can hide, but it's always there and it slips out every once in a while. I have to put effort into not reverting back to my prior speech patterns even after masking it for over 2 decades.
