In this episode of Enlightenment Today, we explore the ability to just drop it. This is an ability cultivated in some of the great spiritual traditions of the East. The ability to just drop it means that anything emotional you experience that lingers in your mind or a psychological problem that persists can just be let go of without thinking anything of it. To just drop the emotional baggage that we often carry and cling to comes from our over-identification with our temporary persona system. The Eastern practice of just dropping it bears fruit when we identify with our eternal true nature beneath the existence of an ego.

I have learned to forgive myself and others, however I’ve also learned not to forget how people treat you... you can do a lot of damage to aspects of your life if you continually engage with abusive or psychopathic people.

Your statement at 19:28 gave me chills. I've recently found myself enduring a lot of pain of a bruised ego due to being laid off twice in less than 2 years. Your videos have been very helpful in this period of trying to find myself or as I learn more, I should say lose myself. I still have much to learn. Thank you.

I'm glad you feel this statement Marshall. Certainly being laid off twice can cause a lot of pain, we all deal with similar situations at varying degrees. I guess the positive is we can begin to move through these circumstances with more clarity once we are grounded in something deeper than our ego. We are all learning and growing together brother. Thank you for being a humble individual.

The character profile of our own inherited identity is written and edited by ourselves. We will always live up to who we believe we are. Yes, we are both the author and the character that the author writes into apparent existence. If that was not true then it wouldn't matter what image you hold of yourself, but, in fact, it does. It is everything. When you say, but I'm not that kind of person, etc, that's how you are writing your character.Try saying, "I AM that kind of person" and feel the difference! So we could stop writing altogether and enjoy the break from needing to larp as ourselves. What unspeakable bliss that is! ⭕

Thank you for the tiimely reminder. I think I have the stickiest mind ever. Not only that, but I have a sticky library full of very articulate and clever comebacks for anyone who dare insult or challenge me. Thank you for help with recognizing and disassembling this obstacle. I feel lighter already!

I love the stickiness analogy and your description of Samskaras, Vasanas and Karma really truly resemble the act of Individuation from a Jungian perspective and doing shadow work to integrate the persona and the shadow.
@JasonGregoryAuthor
@JasonGregoryAuthor 5 жыл бұрын
Thank you for all the kind words Martin. Individuation is very similar to a lot of Eastern thought. Keep in mind Jung was a great admirer of the East and the East did influence his thinking. But you have to remember that what I am explaining in this video is thousands of years older than modern psychology.

Thanks for the videos Karl. Though I wouldn't make any sweeping generalizations of Zen monks and Sadhus. I know many and they are great people. But to be sure, there are those among them that you mentioned, and yet just because there might be people like that doesn't make any one better or worse. We are all doing our best in this life. As for Freud and Jung, they are still the most familiar psychologists with people who are interested in Eastern thought. I guess many people interested in Eastern thought don't have the time to look into new developments in modern psychology. This is why I refer a lot to cognitive science in my show. As for this video being harmful I think that is a little over the top. It could only be viewed that way if I was saying we should drop everything we experience on the personal level. But that's not what I'm saying, hence why I refer a lot to Eastern psychology. Sometimes there are things that need to be dropped because there is no use in ruminating on those thoughts or emotions. Remember I cover this advice clearly in the episode on spiritual bypassing. Just something to keep in mind Karl, just because some people choose to live a different life than you and I doesn't mean we can fully comprehend why they choose that life. To many people in society, monastics and renunciates look like people who have given up but that is only to the untrained eye. One day if you immerse yourself in their lifestyle you might come to realize why they follow that path. Thank you for watching again.

Jason, I really like these Enlightenment Todays. I really learn so much and the length of them is good so I'm not biting off more than I can chew. I hope that you'll make more of these soon. They are really really good.

You read my mind, Rebecca. The reason I haven't been making them for a few months is because writing my new book was taking up too much time, so all I could manage was the podcast. I would say December ET will be back.

@@JasonGregoryAuthor You most definitely deserve support because I really do believe in the validity, honesty, and quality of your work. You are helping us navigate through the Great Eastern teachings that have always resonated with me so deeply, and along with psychotherapy and being only 23 I have just started learning it seems. Thank you for being here for us all. In a sea of shallow content, it is people like you that fulfill the true purpose of the internet, the rise in consciencesness. Keep up the amazing work.

I'd like to know how this knowledge/wisdom can be applied specifically to chemical dependency/addiction.? Intellectually I get the central tennet of nondualistic "Eastern" philosophy and realize (intellectually) that the "true" essence of "what" "I" am "should" not be influenced or impacted by the physical and external attributes and senses that cause and perpetuate addiction. I suppose it's just a matter of having the "will" to let go and put yourself through the fire wether that's via a cold turkey approach or incrementally. However, I'm not sold on the concept or at least do not fully comprehend the concept of freewill vs determinism. It seems that in my present state the one sure fallback is to keep in mind what I truly am (Atman/Brahman) and know that I won't be in this state forever and that there is no such thing as forever or time etc.....

What do you think of jeff browns work on grouded spirituality? This kind of self denial practice seems helpful in theory yet in my experience has led to many issues with becoming ungrounded and out of body. If the sensations are in the field of the body i think its importsnt to include them in the framework of burning through karma, lest the mind be fooled into thinking it has transcended anything ans is really just stuck in aversion as a posture

I am that. this body is worm food, and to be perfectly honest, a royal pain in the ass. This ego that used to think he runs the show also thinks he's real for some crazy reason, although conscious awareness is the new sheriff in town and I am that. It took way too long, however, me and the angels at the department practice tough Love and anthony is currently in prison because the watcher is on to all of his sneaky little tactics to try to convince me that he is real. If he doesn't improve to my liking , I'll give him 30 days in the hole with nothing but a pad to sit on and instructions on meditation and self inquiry.
