What is God's plan for those souls that genuinely never got to hear the salvation message before they passed on?

Great question! There's a great reply to it here: www.catholic.com/qa/is-it-possible-to-be-saved-without-knowing-anything-about-the-bible-or-jesus - in this reply, he quotes the Catechism of the Catholic Church which says: "Those who, through no fault of their own, do not know the gospel of Christ or his Church, but who nevertheless seek God with a sincere heart, and, moved by grace, try in their actions to do his will as they know it through the dictates of their conscience-those too may achieve eternal salvation” (CCC 847). Long story short, we trust their souls to the mercy of God. How would they have responded if presented with the Gospel in this life (are they hard-hearted and self-centered), or more Christlike? There's a great example of this found in the final Narnia book, "The Last Battle," where a character named Emeth encounters Aslan for the first time after he has died and all of a sudden his whole life makes sense and he embraces Aslan, where there is also a group of dwarves who are so focused on themselves they refuse to see Aslan or hear his voice. It's some of the deep stuff Lewis embeds in these stories.
