As a real world Tomahawk pilot with over 56 hours, there's a heck of a lot right with the JustFlight model, but a few things that really need to be addressed in an update. On the walk around in particular. They have you checking fuel from the rear side of the wing, this is impossible for humans to do, our arms DON'T reach anywhere near the fuel caps from the back side of the wing, nor can you see inside to see the metal tab which indicates full fuel. The fuel checks are always and can only be done at the front side of the wing. Secondly when the right side of the engine cowl they list check spark plugs. Well this also isn't possible, because the spark plugs are a part of the magneto system and are inside the engine, you can't pull them out and you can't inspect them. The engine compartment check is to check spark plug and magneto wires and attachment points, as well as checking there is no build up of oil, leaks, birds nests etc, that's all that can be done. Also the stall characteristics on wing drop are far too extreme, if you are holding wings level and rudder amidships, you will not get a snap roll once you hit the stall, the wing drop may have been the case before Piper fixed the issue by adding extra stall strips in late 1978, this is well documented. I've done many many stalls in the Tomahawk and never did I ever get a wing drop unless I had some form of control input on the ailerons. Again it's *almost* a perfect representation of the Tomahawk, but these are glaring mistakes on JustFlight's part that I hope they address in a future update. I may have to go out and film with an Instructor to prove my points. Looking at the landing they have not modeled the stall speed properly, full flap stall is 49 KIAS, you are below 40 KIAS before the stall warning goes off. Will bug JustFlight about that as soon as I have the aircraft and do an in depth real world pilot review.

On a side note, the walk around is done clockwise, starting with the left rear wing and moving around the aircraft till you reach the left hand door and climb into the cockpit ready to start the engine. This is also indicated on the ipad with the direction of the arrows and follows the checklist in the Pilot Operating Handbook. Also don't miss the overheat latch for the doors when you open or close them. Now on the initial startup checklist it should be an clockwise check that starts checking your master switches, instruments, radios (check atis), down to the circuit breakers, primer (as required, then off and locked), mixture full rich, fuel tank, crack open throttle 1cm, parking brake set, lights (nav & strobe), fuel pump on, check all around then call clear prop, and engage the starter. Check oil pressure and temperature within limits within 30 seconds, fuel pressure ok, fuel pump off. It is a systematic way to go through your checklist by heart and not miss anything, Rotate is at 55 kias (manual says 53, but in actual use 55 is where the line is). Standard take off in the Tomahawk is no flaps, only ever use one stage if obstructions ahead like for short field take off. You totally missed doing a runup check, and checking magnetos. Also at that stage fuel pump on for take off and switch off at 500' AGL. Also climb and descent/approach airspeed in the circuit is 70 KIAS.

@@digital_aviator I have also flown Piper Tomahawk in my flight school before, but our takeoff configuration was flaps 1 instead of no flaps despite our training airport's runway is long enough to accommodate 60+ seater turboprop airliners. Maybe there are companies who don't use the standard flapless takeoff.

I mean it looks nice, but the fact that it wasn't even stalling at 38 knots when Vs0 is 48 and Vs1 is 52 knots, I mean that's just way off.

To enter a spin: stall Traumahawk usually does not stall symmetrically - kick full rudder in the direction of low wing, keep it for about half a turn. You should be now in a spin. To recover: Keep Calm Reduce throttle to idle All controls in neutrum Identify the direction of spin Apply full rudder in opposite direction Immediately after that apply full stick forward wait for the stop of spin. As the plane stops turning, rudder to neutrum Pull stick gently Apply throttle smoothly As the horizon begins to approach the mask, push the stick to not overshoot the recovery. Adjust throttle As you see, you would not use ailerons throughout. Except it is possible to enter a spin from a turn: Fly slow Enter shallow turn Overruder the turn Apply stick full back I did not try it on Tomahawk yet but it works with hard-to-spin models (and in real life it is main cause of crushes on turn-to-final)

Typical spin recovery technique... idle, rudder, stick power. I was trying to induce one with an AOA stall but i wasn't giving it enough beans I think.
@gliderfan61967 ай бұрын
@AvAngel I think exactly that. Traumahawk is infamous for entering the spin spontaneously from stall, but in this model I could not reproduce it so far. But a tad of encouragement with rudder and who-hooo! BTW spin recovery I have added for general interest. I know you can recover.

I have already replaced the Grip Tape on the wings, what the hell is that on the wings where the grip tape is supposed to be? I will say I did get one random failure yesterday where my ailerons quit working and I had to turn back to the airport that was pretty fun maneuvering that without ailerons but then it happened one more time within a 3-hour flight that I lost ailerons and rudder, what are the chances of that not realistic but the first time it DID feel awesome.

Too late, Madam, I already bought it. My honest feelings are mixed if talk about extras, bells & whistles, but boy, this thing flies right and behaves right (I tried to get out of spin the wrong way, as seen in one pre-release video reviews, and it did not work with the final product; only the proper procedure would take you out). Feels great and sounds great. Walkaround was a bit disappointment after A2A Comanche but that is all. We have tonz of liveries and no less than three manuals, plus customer support. I think it is well worth trying. But if you want money back guarantee, remember to buy it directly from JF. I have no affiliation with JF, whatsoever. Just my impressions.

A great first look AvAngel. Would you buy this with your own money though considering it only does 107 KTAS? I'm so tempted but like to sightsee but don't have all day to do it in the sim. In real life, I would love one of these! PS Why no engine sound at startup or was it turned down?

There's a lot of little things that I'm being really picky about with this plane but even with that said I judge planes on one thing and one thing only, am I mad that I spent $41.99, (okay 2 things) and do I still want to be flying it when it's time for me to hit the sack. And I can say that I'm not disappointed at all that I spent $41.99 and I did want to fly it more when I had to get off the sim last night.

@@AvAngel I can tell that your real world pilot skills are great yet are the enemy for doing the simulated spin. From training, we are focused on avoiding incipient spin. And if it ever happens, then we instinctively know to get out of it INSTANTLY vs letting it fully develop. You did a great job getting out while losing minimal altitude. Others’ videos are almost scary - they keep the throttle at max and DRIVE the spin and, wow, do they spin! Good job saving yourself and any potential passengers. 😉

Why does the nose drop when flaps are lowered and how do we not over control when that happens

It's another great Just Flight product, but not worth only $4 less than the PA-28 Series. It should be far less expensive as it's a Trainer aircraft.
@justflight7 ай бұрын
No, that's not how we determine our pricing, not at all so although you feel it should be far less expensive, in our opinion it really shouldn't. No point in us going into detail about that because each to their own, but just to say the PA-38 is more detailed, has more extras and looks better than our Arrows. Simply because it's bene developed three years later so we could take advantage of extra features, techniques and methods to move things up a notch, which is what we have done. Thanks.

Just so you know, we at Just Flight don't set the £ prices on the marketplace. We give them the dollar price and they work the rest out in their own fashion. It's £29.99 on our website, that's the price we'd be charging if we set the MP version and/or could release the Xbox version from our website.

Seems like a good airplane, but I wonder why JF chose this one? I get it’s a trainer, but for the price, I’d like something more capable (trips, etc). Just my opinion.
@justflight7 ай бұрын
We chose it many years ago and it's done brilliantly well for us on other platforms and has proved very popular. So we wanted to bring it to MSFS for everyone. It's not our own plane in development we have plenty of other things on the go currently. This fits in nicely, and this version takes it up another notch too. Hope that helps.

why would anyone buy this for $40 when you can spend $15 more and get the gold standard for GA in FS20, being the Comanche. More features, more updates, higher fidelity. It’s a no brainer for anyone, unless you fly the Tomahawk irl.

Because variety is the spice of life. As great as the Comanche is (I love it!), it still would get boring very quickly would it be my only GA option in the sim.

Strange comment if I may say so. It's not a simple choice between two aircraft. People own and use loads of different aircraft in the sim. It's a different plane, different experience and some don't want to just fly the excellent Comanche. Maybe it's not for you but for lots of people it is. It's been an extremely popular release with tons of people using and enjoying it right now.
@bpk-dz5qc7 ай бұрын
I am not a fan of the Comanche in general. I'd love to have the Comanche's level of realism in other planes but I can deal with some imperfections if its actually a plane I want to fly. Just like the Fenix A320, I bought it flew it once and haven't touched it since. I have zero interest in the A320. I'm not going to spend $15 more for a plane I'll never fly. Maybe a no brainier if everyone had the exact same tastes but that's not the case. Comanche and Tomahawk are two airplanes with very different purposes.

The grip tape looks like some kind of black and brown Slate Rock, or Granite countertop, ugly! There are some major texture errors, dithering all over around the wingroot and door panels, mostly visible on any livery that has color in those two spots other than white. I've already spent over an hour and a half fixing textures on a $42 plane that took over two years to complete and is supposed to be study level. It's only study level if you don't study the textures lol. All right now I'm just being funny or am I? 😊 I will say though there is a lot of good about this plane, SERIOUSLY but, that is if'n you don't count the spotty texture on the right tire and how shiny the top of the dash is, (almost looks like you could ice skate on that damn thing) The sounds are amazing, but it is very lacking in systems depth especially in failures and wear and tear there's only one way to fix even when any little thing is wrong You have to completely overhaul your plane getting rid of any hours that you may have had no separation of systems in the EFB to fix. The interactive checklist is really good The sounds are really really good, (probably best in sim,except for tinny ground roll sounds, they need more bass and mid to make it feel like you are in the plane) flight model is great. Overall if you are a person who really needs the aesthetics to feel the immersion this plane does not satisfy, oh yeah I almost forgot the seat belt type straps in the back kind of look like sagging Play-Doh. I know I'm hot and cold on this and that's okay but I almost forgot to mention a lot of the 3D modeling is good It's only some of it that is bad lol
