5:42 You were right. It is Taro root (Gabi in Tagalog). I love it. Even when I was a baby in the Caribbean, my mother would feed it to me in puree form. Today I boil them with salt without the peel on until soft, mash the Taro like mash potatoes, fry some garlic with a little bit of oil, mix that garliki oil with the Taro, and eat the mashed Taro root with 3 fried eggs (runny yolks). 🙂 DELICIOUS!

For a little context, what is the minimum daily wage in that area?

here in the province is lower than the Metro areas. A day labor or house keeper makes about 300p a DAY.. some more, some less. Skilled employees can make from 500 to 1500 a day, but normally only in metro areas, where cost of living is, well higher.

@@inteland2734 For sure there are many that are very well off. But let me tell you, out here in the province, most just live day to day. I have multiple cars, bikes, trucks..and such.. but then, I make US wages.

@@PHExpatPrepper Makati being among the most expensive places in the phillipines. In provinces I seen small very modest houses rent is like 100 USD a month. A person can feed themselves very easily cooking from home with about 2000 pesos a month. Rice is like 80 pesos for kilo or 2.2 pounds for like 1.50 cents. Many people are very nice but need be careful there are also many parasites.

Minimum wage is usually $6 -$7 in the provinces. However, most poor people never make that. They work for $3-$5/day and the work is sporadic. Many girls/women who do housekeeping make $1-$3 for a whole day, if they are lucky to find a job like that in the community. That's reality. They can't afford to buy vegetables or even plant them at home because most don't own the land.
