No, it does not. To inform the ignorant: The consumer pays the full price of the vehicle. The consumer then pays fewer taxes in the form of a deduction to collect the "subsidy." Currently, most lithium is extracted from hard rock mines or underground brine reservoirs, and much of the energy used to extract and process it comes from CO2-emitting fossil fuels. Particularly in hard rock mining, for every tonne of mined lithium, 15 tonnes of CO2 are emitted into the air.

@koreyb

Correction: they want most of us to use public transportation or to just walk or bicycle everywhere. They know EVs are too expensive for the average driver and that the grid can't handle it. The commies don't like the idea of us being able to drive anywhere we want to go. That much freedom is not something they like.
@tiepup
@tiepup Күн бұрын
EVs are typically charged overnight when demand is low, not at peak times in the early evening when people get home. There’s plenty of capacity available while everyone is asleep. Electricity is cheaper overnight too. It also helps power generators by having a demand in off peak hours and helps balance the grid.
@kathywest4868
@kathywest4868 Күн бұрын
@@tiepup Not everyone works during the day. Some people work at night and have charge during the day. Our power grid can't handle everyone having EV's. Plus... I don't want one. I love my truck and I don't want the government telling what I am allowed to drive. (Like CA is trying to do) And how do those power stations get power? Coal and gas. What happens when you are stuck in traffic and your car dies? What happens when you need to be somewhere and don't have time to stop for a 45 min. charge? If you want an EV.... go for it. But most people don't.
@tiepup
@tiepup Күн бұрын
@@kathywest4868 the grid can definitely cope. Workplaces are installing chargers too so there’s no reason you can’t charge at work. You can keep buying gasoline trucks for years to come, remember that the transition from horses to trucks took a while to happen. More and more renewables are in the grid and less coal and gas. Here in the U.K. we are about to switch off the last of our coal power stations. If you’re stuck in traffic your EV uses very little power, but if you were stupid enough to go for a drive without sufficient charge then exactly the same thing as would happen if you didn’t put gasoline in your truck. If you need to be somewhere it’s unlikely to be an emergency 300+ miles away so you’d not have to stop for 45 minutes to charge. I’ve been driving EVs for over 10 years covering over 22,000 miles a year, almost all from overnight charging while I sleep.

Do you know what the size of a liter is? It is very small - hence the large number you are quoting. Stop speaking as if you know what all the American people want because you don't. Change and new technologies come with problems, it was that way with the steam engine and the Model-T; it was also the case with trains, airplanes, and computers but it doesn't mean you throw the baby out with the bath water. What we do is identify the problems and as quickly as possible look for and implement the solutions. This is life - that isn't going to change anytime soon. Not to diminish the horror of the people involved in the examples he gave, but that is an extremely small number of cases. It doesn't warrant dumping the entire plan. I disagree with you mister - I prefer not to have the pollution.

Have you ever been speaking to someone you’ve known for awhile, not well, but friendly, like a neighbour, and they suddenly say something that gives you pause to think, “oh, you’re an idiot. We only talk about little, trivial things so I didn’t pick up on that”. That’s most politicians. They seem nice enough and you’d probably mistake them for a peer. You assume your neighbour is good at whatever his job is because up until this moment, you had no reason to doubt his intellect. Politics is a whole industry of people who seem nice enough and you assume are at least as competent at their job as you are at yours, but put them in the spotlight, elevate them in a presidential campaign, make them Secretary of This-or-That, and the entire country goes “oh, you’re an idiot”. The scary bit is that the system is so full of idiots that what we see are the cream of the crop.

@@jefedelgato2469 The part that makes it difficult is many, many people won't cooperate and unfortunately if that continues there's no guess to be made. I'm not the expert on how many ppm of CO2 there should be but would guess in the 300s somewhere for there to not be warming. The problem is with warming, permafrost is now melting and releasing methane from organic matter frozen 20,000 years ago. So any "oh, climate changes, cycles" comment is destroyed by actual thawing happening now in a very short period. I consider any effort that has scientific basis that aims to reduce carbon emissions including methane, and reduce N2O which is even worse than methane, worth the effort and the cost. What's the cost? What's the cost to generate new jobs nationally for green technologies? Probably $trillions. But the question really is what's the cost of letting other countries generate new jobs on green technologies for a market that's already happening and will displace carbon based technologies, leaving the USA behind? What did it cost to get IC engines to the level they are at now, was that free, were they immediately cheap and available to all? How many years did it take? Do we just take that for granted? Technology costs money. To your last question. New technologies generate jobs so it's not sunk cost, it gives a return on investment. So the question actually is, look at the data and tell me YOU'RE ok with sentencing future generations to certain poverty because we got left behind? Or worse, we didn't even try to do anything about what's now clearly going on, and future generations are sentenced to certain dire circumstances?

@watchimgo
@watchimgo Сағат бұрын
You need to find a better source of news. Tires wear out on sports cars faster, regardless of their engine type. Teslas have a "chill" driving mode that reduces acceleration (still faster than most production ICE vehicles) that doubles the tire life. Most public chargers charge about $.45/KWr, which when compared to gass is like paying $3/gallon - much less than most gass in America, and way less than all gass in Europe. If you charge at home like 80% of EV users, you probably pay half as much again. I just bought an EV and am spending less on electricity and car payments then I did on gass and maintenance on my six year old similarly sized ICE vehicle.
