Stick to collapsed dam, it is such a dramatic process to watch
@jonathanbair523 Жыл бұрын
Have you ever tried to work with the beavers? Like where they dam then put pipes in the ground so some water all ways can get around the damn? 3 or 4 pipes on each side about the with of your hand should let a good amount of water to always flow but allowing them to back some water up to help the wild life.
@lindaleal8094 ай бұрын
@@jonathanbair523 What about the soil erosion? What about the dead and dying forests and grasslands? Dying grass not good food for wild deer and other animals. What about holes in the fields that are dangerous for farmers and destructive to farm equipment? What about lost income because wet farmland won't grow crops, which in Lithuania means grains used for making food for humans and food for cattle?

Regular viewers of this channel may be interested to know that in Lithuania, artificial drainage is a common agricultural practice and the the country is one of the most extensively drained in the world. The total drained land area occupies nearly half of the country's land area and over three-quarters of the agricultural land area so there are a lot of ditches to maintain. In view of this and the fact that beavers in Lithuania are a protected species it results in a lot of dams in the drainage ditches, many of which cause problems for farms by raising the local water table. Mantas does good work in clearing the dams, particularly the old and big ones like the dam in this video. I've watched most of his videos and the drop in water level after the ponds are drained is always massive.

I've been wondering why the farmers don't take care of the drainage ditches themselves. If it was my land I'd do what ever it took to keep the ground free of standing pools of water. And since it doesn't seem they do, I guess there's a good reason for that?

I am from the USA and the first thing I learned is that there are beavers in Europe. When studying American history before the colonization really got started by England starting in 1607, there were French trappers all over North America killing beavers for the pelts to send back to Europe. For some reason that made me think the beaver pelts were a novelty in Europe. I have since learned that beavers in North America, who are bigger than their European cousins, were both hunted to near extinction and are protected because of that. There is a KZbinr Post10 who mostly clears beaver dams from culverts in Maine, which is the northern most part of the east coast of North America. Park rangers patrol the area where a lot of logging is done. When they need to get rid of some beavers that are causing flooding on roads used by big logging trucks, they don’t kill them but trap them and relocate them so their dams can create needed habitat in a different place.
