@@7XSubaru i mean in the way that they think like each other and understand each other. I feel that there was a part of L that hoped that Light wasn’t Kira despite all he said. If Light wasn’t Kira, his sense of Justice would most likely be similar to L’s, as we saw when Light’s memory was erased. Some of the Taskforce members even stated he sounded like L. So in a possible alternate reality where Light wasn’t Kira, I’d think that L and Light would have been great friends.

L's first gambit where Light kills an L standin on live television that was only broadcast in Tokyo narrowed down the search a lot. From there it was just Light getting cocky and making mistakes. All he had to do to win was just sit in his room writing names, not get himself directly involved in the investigation. That's like rule #1 of getting away with your crimes.
