With the calm mind war at 20:20, when you realize you are winning (out-damaging), surely you want to be preserving Sylveon's health here instead of just throwing it away to kill Dudunsparece? Like, by wish-protecting between your attacks you most likely come out of this interaction with +6 in Sp.Att and Sp.def and near full health - a very dominant position. I know this is easy to say in hindsight, but I feel like people often are too worried about random crits (which the out-damaging side is more likely to get) in these type of interactions and should just be prepared to risk this for a 70+% chance you are gonna straight up win the game. In RanBats, this is pretty much all you can ask for.
@swiftbuizelАй бұрын
I think in this case, freezai just auto lost if sylveon got crit through because all his physical mons are slower because of the rattled speed boost (and Dudunsparce may have a tera out of breloom mach punch I'm not sure) so it makes sense why you'd want to minimize the crit chances.
@sampattison3702Ай бұрын
@@swiftbuizel Yeah, but I think if you break down the possibilities with the wish-protect strategy there is: (1) Sylveon crits first (2) Dundunsparce crits first (3) No crits from either mon Sylveon out-damages and so the probability of (1) is larger than (2). Now, hypervoice does around 40-45% and so, given that roost has 8pp, Sylveon will need to use hypervoice around 12-13 times before killing Dudunsparce. In this time Dudunsparce will essentially always to roost-loop to avoid dying and will only be able to attack around 3-4 times. Doing the math given this gives that possibility (3) has around a 50% chance of occurring. This means that cases (1) and (3), in which you get a potentially game-winning advantage, happen ~> 75% of the time (probably around 80-85% of the time when you consider that (1) is more likely than (2)). I think it's pretty clear that, in RanBats, you should take these odds. I feel like people often don't however. This feels like an example of the cognitive bias of loss aversion.
@isaacsimpson8098Ай бұрын
@@sampattison3702 it doesn't really matter what the odds are because ultimately it was much better for him to just guarantee the KO than to risk anything. Yeah he had better odds but for what? The other person had so much more to gain. If he got crit it's an auto loss, if he just takes out the dunsparce the game can continue as normal. I feel like you're only saying this in hindsight where we know that freezai lost. I mean think about it, you're saying there's a 25% chance he would outright lose. Is it worth it for a slow Pokémon like slyveon? It could get shut down by a fast steel or poison type or an unaware Pokémon even if it came out with more health Also there's probably a minor influence of just wanting the stressful situation to be over with and not have a stall war
@wispa1786Ай бұрын
@@sampattison3702loss aversion only really applies if what stands to be gained is of equal or greater value than what may be lost. Sylveon is Freezai's only answer to Dudunsparce, so losing Sylveon probably means losing the game. A +6 SpA/+6 SpD Sylveon could be very useful but it's not a guaranteed win, due to its low speed and vulnerability on the physical side. It's not an equal trade-off and you could probably make the argument that ensuring the KO on Dudunsparce is actually the play with the higher expected value.
@sampattison3702Ай бұрын
@@isaacsimpson8098 Surely the odds do matter right? Like if it's only 1% auto-loss chance you should take this right? For me, RanBats is a game of playing the odds due to the high match-up variance and so when given a chance to win the game the majority of the time near the start, you should take it. I would say the odds of auto-losing are probably 15-20% as in the above estimate. So, 80-85% of the time you come out +6 with tera still available. Unless they have an unaware mon, which can happen but is pretty unlikely, then I would say you have a very likely game winning advantage. With tera-steel and +6 the steel or poison types that you are worried about don't "shut down" Sylveon at all. +6 hypervoice is still going to 1HKO or 2HKO resists and you can still heal.
