Flipside: YOU WERE MINE - Here is another really great cover version from my music collection. Rudy West hailed from Newport News, Virginia. He began singing with his group, The Five Keys in 1951, recording for Aladdin Records and through the years The Five Keys would record for many different record labels.
It is really hard to imagine that of all the great songs The Five Keys have recorded, only 4 of their songs charted nationally on Billboard. Their biggest was “OUT OF SIGHT OUT OF MIND.” It charted October 1956 for 15 weeks and reached #23. “OUT OF SIGHT OUT OF MIND” was written by iconic singer-songwriter, the late great ‘Ivory Joe Hunter’.

In 1959, lead singer Rudy West took a break from The Five Keys and recorded some songs solo. In my opinion, Rudy West is one of the "GREAT" lead singers of our time and the epitome of all lead singers!

@@mintrecords4ever I don't know who you are but I sense you are from Philly. I went to Tommy More HS class of 1963 -- Frankie LaFaro (Bobby C) was a classmate of mine. I grew up in Overbrook and he was from 49th st. Also Joe Mariani is my newspaper courier. Used to see Len Barry (Borisoff) who played JV ball for the Brook walking around the neighborhood. And of course Anthony Maresco and Billy Carlucci at every dance back in the 60s when I met my wife back in 1962 at St Alices. She passed away 7 years ago and the old music bring back so many memories of our time together. Keep doing what you do.

Rich, I'm originally from North Jersey. I moved to South Jersey in 1978. Listen, Billy Carlucci is a dear friend, talk with him often. I produced a show at Harrah's Casino A.C. many years go with Lloyd Price, Billy/Essentials and Len Barry (Great show). On my channel, check out the song "My Heavenly Angel" by The Cherokees...I share a nice story about my 42 plus years in the music business with many of the artists I've produced. I also personally managed The Duprees for 24 years...some really "GREAT" memories!

Very good take on a classic..considering they're covering one of my top 10 favorite groups, I was impressed by their vocals when I first heard it 40+ years-back and added it to the collection..as usual, terrific liner notes..thks
