First rap song to hit the #1 slot in the US. Debra Harry was a huge rap fan and ran around with several rappers when she was young. She was also a Playboy bunny for a while.

Debbie Harry is STILL very attractive. But it's like Sade or Alice Cooper or similar where the band name becomes the lead singer's "name" - I know a guy personally who named his son "Hootie" because he thought that was Darius Rucker's name and Hootie and the Blowfish are his favorite band LOL

The group had four #1 songs in the US. They all could have been considered different genres. Heart of Glass - disco The Tide is High - reggae Call Me - rock, new wave Rapture - through the MTV video, introduced much of the country to rap and hip hop
@sumonjamal1653

Blondie was formed in the 70's in NYC by singer Debbie Harry w/ her then-BF Chris Stein (guitar) and Clem Burke (drums)... They were part of the scene that produced The Ramones... and Blondie were initially a very edgy rock band. 'Heart of glass' was their major disco single from their 3rd album 'Parallel lines'.... which sold platinum in the US and was a huge hit in Europe where Blondie enjoyed huge popularity. They also had more guitar-driven singles like - 'One way or another' ... 'Sunday girl'... 'Call me' ... 🔥🔥 They also had a rap single 'Rapture' ... a reggae influenced single - 'The tide is high'... Blondie did not rest on one sound. However, their popularity crashed in the early 80's after the 1981 album 'The Hunter'... and Blondie split up. Years later, Blondie reunited w/ new members and released a comeback album 'No exit' in 1999 w/ the hit single - 'Maria'. Blondie is still active and has released several new albums, even as Debbie Harry is 79 yrs old...

@@neilpatrickhairless I grew up listening to Prog rock and my parents hated Blondie because of what the radio did and pigeon holed that band. They were so much more than just disco and I am glad to understand how important Blondie was to everything. The CBGB and everyone that went through that place is thanking Debbie and the boys for what they did for the punk/new wave scene.

Initially they were somewhat reluctant to listen to Mike Chapman's ideas and advice - then they heard the results and realised that he had been right all along. The relationship started rocky but he made 3 subsequent albums with them and most of Debbie's Def, Dumb & Blonde solo album. They have stated that he actually allowed them to experiment a lot which they loved but also provided structure which they sort of needed.

Blondie were an incredible band. They came out of the New York club scene of the late 70s. They were absolute inspiration sponges soaking up every diverse sound that scene had to offer. Rock, punk, soul, funk, disco and even the very birth of the hip hop genre. They could encompass all of those sounds and switch between them at will. The next track MUST be Rapture PLEASE, the actual birth of Rap as far as the charts were concerned believe it or not.

Aileen, The way she is using her lips is embouchure, most brass players and many singers use it to tweak the notes. Freddy Mercury and Bono etc. countless others you'll notice them doing it ever so slightly Sting is another prime example as is Phil Collins. Technique to it is just hearing the notes within the "windpipes and ears and tuning it" (what my old trumpet teacher used to tell me)

Debi Harry, born Angela Trimble but adopted shortly after birth, renamed then raised in New Jersey. The band Blondie was actually her third band, but the first to show commercial success. They also had hits with Call Me, One Way Or Another, The Tide Is High and Rapture. Rapture is very quirky and is recognized as the first hit song to use rap. Not the whole song, but it was totally new back then. It was a "kinder and gentler" rap back then without references to sex, drugs or explicit violence. Personally, I loathe rap and the message it carries to our youth, but I have to be honest enough to say that Blondie opened the gate for everyone else that followed after she had heard it being performed in some of the underground clubs in NY.

This is one of her disco songs but she came from Punk so the band has a bit of an edge. She was also kind of known for some of those facial expressions, dance movies and little moves. I am a big fan and used to try and get my hands of everything Blondie when I was a kid. I own every record I could find except some of the pre-Blondie ones with Debbie Harry as she was in a folk band briefly.

Debbie Harry kicked down a lot of walls back then for female artists. She definitely took zero bs from the industry.

Deborah Harry was my first musical celebrity crush! You will hear that a lot from men my age, lol. This was a very interesting time in music, and Blondie was at the forefront at the turn from the 70s and disco to the 80s and the more electronic pop.

Ah my childhood crush! I have been playing drums to her songs since I had an 8 Track tape of "Best of Blondie"! They have some great and fun songs. I hope you react to "Call Me" and "One Way or Another". Oh, and if you feel daring, do "Rapture". ;) Great reaction Aileen!!!

That song reminds me of a party on a camping trip in 1980-ish. I love Blondie.I think you'll also like "Rapture". Quite a fun song and video.

Back in the day (I was 17-18) Blondie was about the only "Disco" music that the Rocker Macho Guys (Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden etc.) could listen to without getting ribbed by their buddies :) Debbie Harry and Stevie Nix were Goddesses in that crowd (me included). I took a lot of trash talk from guys cause I listened to/loved Bee Gees, Earth Wind & Fire, War and Tina Turner :)

Blondie started out as a punk band, so if you want o hear her power look out for Dreaming (amazing drumming) and X-offender (the song that got them started). Another great song is Union City Blue and a great lighter song is Sunday Girl. They had lots of hits, especially in the UK.

debbie harry and blondie perfectly capture the vibe and amazing scene of late '70s nyc. this was their foray into disco but they touched on many different genres. if you want more full-throated vocals from debbie i recommend "call me" and "dreaming". also love "one way or another".

Blondie put out so many different types of sounds but my two faves are "Atomic" and "The Hardest Part" I also like some of their really early stuff which had a punk tint to it.

I was able to see them live at the Greek theater in L.A way back in 1979. They put on a very lively and energetic show. I still remember it fondly to this day.
