This clip is yet one more wonderful addition to Andrews MY FAIR LADY legacy. I hadn't realized that she did the complete number on her television show. How lucky we are to see her in costume doing the number. I know that the performance is directed for the television cameras - but at least we are able to experience Andrews' passion and charisma in her Act 1 explosion song. THANK YOU!!!

I agree...such passion....it is our loss that we are unable to watch her play her iconic character Eliza Doolittle...she is just phenomenol in the songs, i cannot even fathom to imagine how brilliant she must have been in the play...even the song show me, she has sung quite a few times shows so much energy and passion...also i read in her memoir that she still recieves english violets for present which were Eliza's flower in the play every year on 20th May from her fans...so lovely .♥

😆 And no, they seem to come from the same person originating in Germany, if KZbin analytics can be trusted. She is no Henry Higgins, but rather dying of jealousy, it seems.

I kept listening to Julie’s recording of this song on Spotify and the way she snarled and screeched is just so amazing that Marnie’s and (oh yeah) Audrey’s rendition sounded pallid to me. She had shown quite a range from the start of the song which was angry and harsh that contrasted with the section of her imaginary conversation with the King which was when she’s “proper and prim” - and the sweetest line was reserved when she sang that she wanted “‘Enry ‘Iggin’s ‘ed.” Neither Marnie nor Audrey had such passion in their renditions, for me. So yeah, Julie’s version will always be the best for me.

There are two plays I would have loved to have seen: MY FAIR LADY w/ Julie Andrews. A STREETCARE NAMED DESIRE w/ Marlon Brando

Assuming this is remotely similar to her Broadway performance, its an historic find She is not lipsynching to the studio recording but the vocal is pretty close. She appears to have made an effort with the original costume and the way she is moving around the stage and her use of props. LOL, As an American kid listening to the album, this song was the most difficult for me to understand, because Andrew's accent was so thick, it took me forever to figure out what she was singing! We did not have KZbin videos with lyrics in those days.

Just saw this on tour and thought it was really not good. Idk if it’s the mics or the cast’s projection, but you couldn’t hear a single bit of nuance in their voices, or really their voices at all! THIS performance of “Just You Wait,” however, is wonderful and she speaks clearly and acts it out so well I can tell exactly what’s going on! This is great

"Czekaj no, Higgińszczaku, czekaj no, Jeszcze łaski będziesz skamleć, a ja - o! Będziesz w nędzy, ja forsiasta, Czy ci dam coś? nic i basta! O ho, ho, Higgińszczaku czekaj no! Czekaj no, Higgińszczaku, czekaj no, Jak nawali ci wątroba albo co! Ty z kompresem na wątrobie, A ja w miasto pójdę sobie, O ho, ho, Higgińszczaku, czekaj no! Och, Higgińszczaku, proszę Cię, znów mnie skrzycz, wyłajaj i zburcz, Och, Higgińszczaku, Potem kąp się w wannie aż cię złapie skurcz! I w tej wannie top się, top, A ja w miasto, a ja - hop! O ho, ho, Higińszczaku, Czekaj no, Higgińszczaku, czekaj no! Chcesz - rzecze król - to ją masz, Niech tylko schwyta go moja straż. I powiodą, Higgińszczaku, cię pod mur, Przyjdę ja i król się zjawi i cały dwór, A gdy nóż zabłyśnie, stal, Ja krzyknę: ognia, cel, pal! O ho, ho, Higgińszczaku, Czekaj no, Higgińszczaku, o ho, ho, Higgińszczaku, czekaj no!" Przekład: Janusz Minkiewicz

I love Julie Andrews, really, she's my first inspiration for becoming a singing actress...but for me this is all shouting and postures, you don't get the situation at all... Audrey's acting conveys the conflictual emotions much better !
@TheJulieAndrewsArchive3 жыл бұрын
I don't work on stage. But I do know there's a difference bewteen commding a stage or a camera. If you are standing on stage your mimic and gestures have to be more pronounced so the people all the way in the back still see your emotions. With a camera all the way in your face? Not so. Considering Julie did originate this role on stage, I would assuming, this is how she portrait it it some 17 years earlier. I might also be biased, because I must be the only person on this planet that really doesn't care for Audrey Hepburn as an actress. And I very much disliked the movie version.
@afellowamericanafellowamer53172 жыл бұрын
In the original album her voice sounds so much better. This version she's lost a step. She tries too hard. Listen to the original L.P. if you can find it.

Julie Andrews is the extraordinary, but My Fair Lady was meant for Audrey Hepburn. She took this part much better. You got a lot Julie. Mary Poppins, The Sound of Music. But this role was best with Audrey 💯.

I disagree they gave the role of Eliza a actress who can't sing. But ig if Julie took the part we wouldn't have the Mary Poppins we know and love and she might not have that Oscar

I believe Julie would have won the Oscar either way.
@katerinacerna85553 жыл бұрын
@@jeidamartin5496 actually, Audrey could sing pretty well and she started taking classes immediately after being casted. There are even recordings of "her versions" of some songs. (And in my opinion, they're really good.) Nobody told her she's not gonna sing and nobody asked her. It was decided even before they casted her, that the singing will be done by Marni Nixon, as it was normal at the time. Mary Poppins was a "speciality" in this, it wasn't common for the leading actress to sing her parts. Audrey was mad and wanted to sing it, hence the recordings of her versions, but the producers ignored her.
@jeanpierredevos31373 жыл бұрын
Audrey did this miles better. Julie can sing but not act at all.

are you joking?! julie didn’t won hundreds of awards for nothing! audrey couldnt even sing in her own starring role. julie’s portrayal of eliza really originated it for audreys reference, not to mention her amazing work in the lifetime of movies shes starred in. to mention a few, maria vontrapp from sound of music and mary poppins!

@@hii-lv9ni Look it up. The 50 most important actresses in Holliwood.. Julie could sing butvwas noten actress at all.. Audrey had stile and class. She was dubbed for the film but there was no need because she could sing. Listen to her own voice.

You are right, Hepburn ranks higher. But I think you’re on the wrong channel. I don’t like Hepburn (Audrey, that is. I love Katharine) as an actress. Her singing voice doesn’t hold a candle to Julie’s and her acting abilities are not something I enjoy. I think she lucked out with her Pixie face and Givenchy as a designer friend. Now Audrey Hepburn as a human being was a great person. Absolutely. Long story short. The o e ranks higher as an actress, the other got more awards as an entertainer. You pick.
