My mom told me a story about turkeys when she was growing up in rural Quebec in the 1920s: one afternoon a big ice storm was coming. My grandmother told my uncles to quickly bring in the turkeys as they might freeze to death if they were not under shelter. It took a long time for my uncles to finally locate the turkeys: they had all flown up onto the roof of their two story home and were stuck up there. I don't know how many survived the storm.

Happy KZbin Anniversary To the whole hard working family. Starting up a channel is not a simple as you make it look… Love all the advice and how too’s. Oh wait I have to go through a door on our farm. Hard to text, hold the phone, watch your video and slide the barn door. Bought some meat birds and laying hens as a trial run this year. Never found an earlier video from you on dressing meat birds. But my friend who sews helped me out. Now in freezer all tuxed up. Having never experienced the process of processing but the 2 hour Joel Saladin KZbin video has another 50 views just from me rewatching the details. Saving this video for the waterer. Thank Hilary and Pete

Worked on a pasture raised turkey farm as a kid. During the harvest, my brothers and I would start the roundup at 4:30 a.m. We would herd them into a holding pen. Several other kids would push them onto a conveyor while holding a piece of plywood in front their legs. At the top of the conveyor 2 of the older kids would load them into a semi truck. By 9 a.m. we would be finished. The turkeys would be too awake to herd. Good memories.

Oh we've seen you frown a few times but you had merit for those frowns. but most of the time you ift all of our days. thank you and God Bless you for that. ECF.

Hi Pete and Hilary. I asked my wife to let me comment. I first started watching when you was working on your house. We had our house build from the ground up. Being the only son, my great, grandfathers, grandfathers and my father. All chipped in and bought the land, I designed the house. And outer buildings, it wasn't till about 4 years ago. We decided to add animals, we started with chickens. This year I cleared more land. We are lucky because we started. Buying land before we married, being the only son, the great grandfathers , grandfathers and my father all pitched in. We picked the area we wanted to live, we didn't have neighbors, we still don't. But people would give me old mobile homes I'd re do to make use as buildings later, this year we added 2 bulls, 4 heifers. We added pigs, a couple of goats. I decided that I would start small. We grow a lot of what we eat. But I take my hat off to you Pete. I'm a smarter man because I watch your videos. I learn a lot. The farmer up a ways give me tips, sell me animals, several old tractors, like you I have a loving and understanding wife, who is my best friend. That help me and she don't complain much. I can now mostly work from home. We get up early. It's not easy. But it's kept me humble. My 6 years in the Army taught me a lot. I can build things, fix things, my father was in the army too. He used work on cars and other vehicles after he got of the Army. I've had a lot of people to help me along the way. I'm Greatful. Oh yes, we have 2 pet deer that are tame. Our oldest is 19 and our youngest will be 4 this year. My wife had her own practice. Now she is a midwife. I'm also a licensed vet. It helps if the animals get sick, need vaccines. I'm prepared. I was thinking about turkeys. You answered my questions today. You never know who might be watching, learning from you. I just want to say Thank you Pete.👍👏👏👏👏. My children don't get my jokes either. I think starting small was a good idea, I don't want to bite off more than I can chew. I try save, refuse, repair what I can. I know our oldest boys might leave one-day to live on their own. Though they don't have to, but at 18 and 19 I realize they might have their own dreams. But hopefully, I'll have my wife and best friend by my side, lending a hand, till death do us part, or I get to where I can't do this anymore. I'll keep watching, and learning from you. Again Thanks Friend. Blessing to you and Hilary. As my wife would say, Love, respect and positivity always. Andrew , Vee and family.👍✌️🖖🙂👋.

Your thinking is like mine, simple is the ticket when it comes to cooking. I like your turkey roost, arc, it's pretty neat looking. I would love to get one of your turkey's, however I live too far away, in the midwest. The raccoons are such a pain, they got into my young rabbits last year and I had to, well lets say take care of business. That pork belly looks great, wish I could have some, that's just the way it goes. Loved the video, thanks for that Pete, have a wonderful weekend.
