You could almost feel the sadness in the owners face when you were loading his last tractor up to leave. I remember when grandad had to quit farming and sell his first new tractor{Farmall Super C}. He was very sad watching all the memories go down the road. At least it has a new great home. You folks have a great day, Bill

I remember when my grandfather died of a stroke and we later had to get everything prepped for auction. On Auction day, I was tasked with getting a small tractor started before the bidding. I had a knack for getting them started, so they let me do it (mid-teens), but nope, that day, she flooded and wouldn't start. My uncle jumped up and pushed me off and got it started. I felt like a bag of crap, embarrassed and sad are feeling like I failed in front of hundreds of people. Wasn't a great time.

in my experience, older tractor owners often just want someone to take the tractor that will value it like they did. I often see people practically giving them away in classified ads .

It is quite obvious the previous owner loved this tractor and has taken great care of it all these years, that is why it runs, looks and sounds so good. I know he was sad to see it go but I am sure he was glad it was going to someone who would care for it like he did. I think you got a good one here and look forward to seeing you put it to work. The previous owner of the 856 seemed sad to watch his tractor going down the road. I grew up in a farming community in West Virginia and worked for a lot of different farmers. Watching the old owner reminded me of several of the farmers I worked for (that was 50 years ago) as they were forced into retirement simply because their bodies were worn out. It is a reminder that we are here for vapor of time, James 4:14. On a different note I am looking forward to your work on the 656, I really enjoy your tractor rebuild videos.

This video made me well up, Pete. Such good moments... how precious it was to watch your children drive the tractor and for us, your minions, to be a part of that special memory with them and with you. Thank you for giving us that. The display of the circle of life as the herd changes was captured in this video as well. The fields as they go through their changes as well. It all ties in with the seasons and the very heartbeat of existence and the meaning of life. Such a lovely depiction of the whole picture of what it means to live and thrive in life when you're in harmony with it all. The best part for me however was the moment you said, "I like having birds in my barn". I think that is so wonderful of you. Thank you for saying that. OH! And by the way... that ridiculous toothless termite joke you told took me beyond the edge of hilarity as that very same joke is the signature joke of my life as I have been telling that one for decades because it's the only joke I've ever been able to remember for some screwball reason. lol However, I always heard it this way... A toothless termite saunters into a bar, hops up on a stool, slams down his tiny fist and yell's, "WHERE'S THE BARTENDER!!" ...so have you noticed that every time you tell that joke it takes a while for anyone to get it? lol It is my number one all time favorite joke.

About 70 years ago I went through the same learning curve and consider it a big milestone in my life. At 18 the Army let me learn how to fly a helicopter and I progressed up the ladder to retire off a Boeing 777 (645,000 pound max taxi weight) As they say life is a circle and I am back on a tractor (New Holand). I consider myself lucky compared to my dad who's first tractor experience was steam powered. He parlayed that experience into the Navy and retired as a Chief Machinist Mate on 12-7-1949. Best part of milking in the summer is looking into the nests and seeing the baby birds. A lot less bugs in the barn when you have barn swallow flying around

I like the sound of your future plans to upgrade your shop so that you can repair / restore your latest tractor acquisitions. You are very good at restoration work. And certainly could be a great option for you to enjoy now, and going into your retirement years.

Yeah ! Go for it,a nice big shop, with all the bells and whistles,it's gonna make your hobby and retirement so much nicer. Don't forget, with bigger tractors, you will need to get some kind of over-head block and tackle,to move your big parts.

Pete, I'm so glad you'll be doing the 656 up, with the others to follow. I'll be watching as each one comes off the line! Good to see the kids wanting to learn to drive and take the new toy for a spin around the chooks. 😄

You must have read my mind Pete because I was going to ask you which tractor would be the next candidate for restoration now that you have an extra one. I'm looking forward to the new project already. Thanks for the videos and stay safe.

Hope you're going to show the work on the 656. Love those videos. More complex than my working on marinized sailboat diesels but I had my share of problem solving in strange lands. At almost 82, I live vicariously now, through you and Hilary and the. farming and tractors. Appreciation from an old sailor lady.

The 856 looks good. I'd polish her up and put a clear coat on her. I drove a 560 diesel when I was 16 yrs old. worked for a farmer that raised Potatoes, Onions, Peppermint and Spearmint. I worked for him until I was 17. Joined the U.S. Air Force, and made it a career. Retired in 1989 and drove a truck for 25 years. Now retired in NW Florida and lovin your channel. Keep up the great work Pete. Look forward to all the new content. Richard Hutchings.

Always so bittersweet watching this tractor change hands. End of an era is never easy. Just like the rancher I saw recently on another video putting the last of his now elderly horses down. The cycle of life as it's always been.

good trick to screwing the lag L bolts in is putting a 3/8x 4 inch eye bolt in a battery drill on low place eye bolt over the L bolt and run on low speed

I could hear the sadness in the Farmer's voice while talking to you both as you were loading the tractor. Understandably so. I still have fond memories of cars and trucks I had 65 yrs ago. had a 55 Chevy pickup. loved that truck one of the "five window jobs" also hated to part with my 52 Dodge 3/4 ton also. and a little Cub tractor that I had for several years. but its nice when you bring em home!. thanks for sharing.
