I’m a first time watcher so I have no idea about the video in question. I can only speak for myself, but if I had inadvertently included something in a video that I had made and the person in question had written to express their concerns about it, I would, just for the sake of decency, edit the video and offer an apology. It just doesn’t seem like an unreasonable thing to do and then move on.

Lawyer here, you should air on the side of caution and take this seriously. They can absolutely sue you, they likely won't win but they can give you a lot of headaches and make you hire a lawyer. If there are no contact details for their lawyer then it is likely they have just written it themselves to scare you and have no intention of following through with the threat. Really you should have indemnity or media insurance to protect yourself against trivial lawsuits. Let this be a lesson to you not to feature random members of the public in your videos or attribute words and actions to them, its asking for trouble, don't forget anyone can sue anyone, and it can cost you a lot of money in lawyer fees. Personally I would edit the video and reupload, don't let your ego get you into a completely avoidable ordeal that would stretch on for a year if they do decide to sue you.

Maybe this would be the case in the USA but in the UK it would require a great deal more evidence than they have. Their first hurdle would be to prove they were that individual in the video and establish what harm a random comment on a channel which in YT terms is very small indeed and in another country. Then put a value of loss they incurred by that caption even if it could be proven beyond reasonable doubt that the caption and the random individual WERE the same. This is a Troll doing it for sheet and giggles to see if Deano bites. They are clearly British and not the random individual in the video. Deano doesn't even wear a T shirt of any other identifying logo to tell people his YT channel details when walking about so the chances of the actual random probably Spanish woman finding a 3 second clip in a Yorkshire man's travel video is about 50million to 1. It is a UK based troll baiting Deano, simples. Yes, it might be an idea to look at some form of insurance but the premiums would be far higher than what Deano earns in a year as a guess. Deano had more chance of getting some gold from a Nigerian prince's inheritance than being sued. get real !!!

As others have said, ignore it. You didn't identify the person therefore any damages would be almost impossible to prove or quantify. The statement itself isnt even remotely damaging either and would be laughed at if they even contacted a defamation law firm. This would be the same as someone calling a anonymous twitter account a plonker. Would never get anywhere as they aren't identified. I'm actually chuckling at how they think they could prove damage to reputation from a video about such a niche topic. Even If the person you put in was a famous photographer or some other job like that then they would still struggle that their name was affected by it. I sense some lonely person pings off a lot of speculative letters hoping some random youtuber will panic and offer them a few quid to be quiet. Too many stag and hen do's these days. If you do go again I'd recommend the old town side which is safer and quieter in my experience.

Ok, and knowing EU Law my friend. 1 Filming people and places is highly restricted due to privacy Laws, so I would advise you to blur people faces in your videos in the EU, Portugal, Spain and Germany have particularly punishing legislation in place about that. You can film in public spaces and public buildings, but people, no, not directly, and inside a business, like a supermarket, the business owner can stop you from filming inside the premises and even demand you remove any footage or pictures of the inside of the business. Usually most people could care less what you are doing unless you film them directly or in an offensive and intrusive way but beware if a person tells you, "you cannot film me", that person is right, its call the right of image, even if in a public place and the penalties range from a fine to jail - and remember offenses by foreigner visitors go to a data base accessible in all of the EU, I know of some tourists who had nasty surprises when trying to enter the EU again. 2 Any one calling you out and asking for you to remove their image or footage, whatever, would also have to identify him or herself, or do it via an official police report, Court order, via a Lawyer or simply contacting you and identifying the situation and saying what particular image they wanted you to remove, blur, silence, whatever. 3 In my opinion, if you were here in the EU, you should show that email to the police and sue them back, there are dozens of those scams online. Since I do not know the laws on that matter in the UK this last part is up to you. And no, most people are really not that sensible, at least here.

I wouldn't ignore it if I were you, maybe ignore the ones telling you to ignore it. Considering the vid in question has like 10k views and no one really knows of your channel, it means she found it or it was brought to her attention and she went to the trouble of contacting you. It seems a fairly reasonable request to edit it out, just do it. You're trying to grow a channel, just take it as a learning curve. You've also Dox'd her on top of that & further escalated things. You're pretty much asking for trouble. There's a good chance one of the people who has watched the vid likely emailed her something distasteful or even threatened her & you're going to get the blame for it. I'd remove this vid and also either edit the bit out or take down the vid all together. If it's legit, you'll lose & with the doxing thing, you could do damage to your channel, YT could take action.

Because I am one of the tigers in the box for both sides, I'll just say this Deano.... If contact details were provided, reach out to the complainant and give them the opportunity to come on a video or give a statement about what she was, in fact, thinking at the moment you jokingly wrote the KZbinr comment beside her image in the offending video. If she issues a statement/comes on a vid and tells us why it was an untrue representation, then take down the original offending video because you have enough evidence to prove she wasn't thinking that at the time. As it stands, you and I could both guess what she was thinking but until she tells us, you have as much evidence for your assumption as I have for mine! But more seriously, you shouldn't be intimidated or worried, but if you want an easy life, take that clip out of the offending video and get on with your life. But if you feel strongly about this, and it's a hill you're willing to die on, then leave it stand and see what comes next.... but take us along for the ride!
