i bought 2 anker solix f3800 ($2500ea on sale) ... the cable adapter ($250) to join them not the wall mount controller .... i plug in the adapter to a 50amp plug which goes to a 50amp breaker in the box ... 2 vatrar 51.2ah batteries ... i plug 1 battery into each of the f3800's ... the batteries were $1000 each ... so around 17k watt hours ... 4 580w ($150ea) solar panels ... this runs my home (small) with 2 ppl living there ... have had it pulling up to 10k+ watts at once with dryer/stove/ac/entire home ... have just had a few months ... installed myself ... but no hiccups ... no issues at all ... love it

Installing enough solar panels (4.8kw) to max out both F3800s is the next essential step to make the overall invest worthwhile. Doing that will maximize the electricity bill savings when there is grid power, as well as allow you to have electricity indefinitely when the grid goes down. Since it's relatively inexpensive to add a generator inlet to your main panel, I would do that as well. This way you have an additional backup. Since an inverter generator (clean energy only) will be able to charge the batteries while it powers your home, the setup will provide the additional benefit of reducing the overall propane consumption during an emergency.

Savings? You're talking about $12,000 for the 2x Anker SOLIX F3800 + 2X BP3800 expansion batteries. Plus probably another $500-$1000 to get a electrician to install the panel minimum maybe even more... then you gotta spend at least another $500 for each 400W panel so $2000+tax. You're around $15,000 in the hole at this point and then you have to run conduit or pay someone to install panels on your home... then you have to factor in what if you want panels that rotate to face the sun more efficently... You're never going to "save" money here it'll take well over 15-20 years to even see any benefit and by then the F3800 and B3800 will be obsolete. Then is purely to have a emergency power source and aint no way you're ever saving money with this setup. If they can lower the cost of these units or somehow make it make financial sense then this setup is just not going to make sense to most people rather get a 30 AMP bypass to tie in a regular inverter generator and use it to run the fridge/freezer/fans/lights during outages. Powering your HVAC is just a flex here. I think where these units do shine however is if you're a heavy RV user with solar on top. Must more peaceful to run a BP3800+F3800 in your RV while on the road rather than a generator.

@@kmain0or just buy a couple of these and forgo the whole solar set up and just sign up for one of those “free nights” plans and charge them at night when it’s free and run them during the day instead of using the electrical grid. You’ll save enough on electricity to pay for these in just a couple of years but you won’t really be set up for extended emergency backup power, just a few hours.

I have solar panels on my home for daytime energy and I get free electricity every night from 9pm until 7am. The free night time electricity means I get charged a high per kWh rate ($0.27/kWh) during the day, but I have 17 KW worth of solar panels on my roof so no big deal when it's sunny. I have 2 Ecoflow Delta Pro Ultras that's able to run my entire house, plus I have a transfer case that powers 10 of my essential circuits which connects to 2 regular Delta Pros and 2 batteries each (21.6 kWh worth). All my batteries are connected to off-grid solar panels (separate from my 17KW worth of on grid panels) so they basically maintain a charge all day (unless it's raining). So I supplement my on grid usage with the Delta Pros and Delta Pro Ultras whenever I'm not on the free electricity rate and the sun isn't shining or it's raining/cloudy out, so I NEVER pull from the grid and I'm able to charge my 45 kWh worth of batteries and 2 EVs every night for free. To top it off I get energy credits every month which adds up, therefore they send me a check whenever I build up a certain amount of credits.

Get the bifacial panels up higher if you want to pickup more power underneath. You could paint the fence white below it and for a ways down the fence line. You'll need some concrete and steel to get them up high enough without lots of structure, but you also be increasing your power capture. I say this as someone who has installed 33 bifacial panels in a 12kW system and at my old house I installed an 11kW system there.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with this video. Most likely during an emergency of a catastrophic degree, you will not run the larger TVs nor the pool pump extending your running time. While some folks may argue that a $500 generator can do the same, it is an issue when you need to constantly refuel. I strongly believe in a hybrid system where the solar panels feed the batteries and the generator kicks in if the batteries are too low and the panels are not supplying sufficient energy. This is an excellent investment and does briing you piece of mind, especially if the outage extends to days or weeks as we experienced in the Austin area. Thank you and take care.

We have solar and a Tesla powerwall 3 but installed a similar 2x Anker solix f3800 and 3 expansion batteries on each and the system works well. Had originally bought the F3800s during their kickstarter campaign and had installed solar in the interim. We added the expansion batteries since it was easier and cheaper than getting another powerwall 3 installed. Only difference in my set up is I didn’t move any circuits over to the critical loads panel since my powerwall will switch over and the F3800s will still continue to function. Only drawback is that my F3800s output is limited to 6kW. Most of the time I’m under 6kW draw except when the pool heater is running and I’m charging my car. The F3800s are great - only wished they designed it for higher solar input since 60v max means you have to wire panels in parallel to stay within the solar input parameters.

I have a F3800+expansion+Smart Monitor a month ago (no Solar) as a backup to a whole house Generac which failed the 3 times really needed (Hurricane Harvey, 2021 Texas freeze, Hurricane Beryl). A/C surge is 3k, that's why you need a soft start. While the AC's not running you can run a washer or dryer. A washer uses about 100 200 watts & a gas dryer uses about the same. He's constantly replenishing the system with 800 watts from the 2 sets of 400 watt panels in the backyard pulling maybe 4-500 w per set. I would definitely not put those panels behind a shed but I understand he doesn't want to ruin the look of the backyard.

Which the Opus and the battery back up will run everything in his RV, Lights, Both TVs, the Fans, Water pumps, and the seat vibrators/ heaters in his movie seats for like 90 hours straight according to the power meter on the unit. and only for an hour if he runs the AC. with the panels out it can run indefanetly an for an extra hour with the AC on. So, as long as you dont use the AC or something similar, you never have to worry about electricity as long as you have sun to fill the unit back up and dont go hog wild on the devices.

Don't have an Anker system (it wasn't out when we were shopping for one) but we got an Ecoflow Delta Pro and maaaaaaan it's so fucking NICE to have a thing with a bunch of batteries that you can charge from almost any source that you want. So happy these type of products are a thing and attainable for people. WISH they were less expensive cause I fully believe these should be in every house to at least keep the food from spoiling in the fridge. Absolute game changer of a market.

If you get an EV truck, that can basically be your whole back up power system. I mean, if you are getting a truck or vehicle anyway, get one that is a backup battery on wheels

I bought an Opus mega 3 over the summer, and man is this thing amazing. I got the unit an extra battery pack and 4 of the fold out solar panals. to try it out I plugged in my entertainment center with the bigscreen tv, sound bar, PS5, Switch, Blue Ray player AND for the extra load hooked up my Laptop, and this thing was only using 450 watts for all of it, AND I can run with this load for 12 hours with out the solar panels out. With them out they generate for 600 to 800 watts of power so as long as I got sun..... If I had a real power emergency Id be covered for a day or 2, and longer If I used it like an emergency back up:) Also It runs my air fryer. graned it would only run it for an hour considering it pulls like 2000 watts to power it, but it CAN run the air fryer. I used it with my gorge forman too, only 500 watts to run that and I only need it for like 15 mins to cook stuff. my Slow cooker uses almost nothing, like 200 watts... I dont have an induction cook top, but if I did I bet it would be even more effectent to use with the power station!

That depends on your power consumption. If you run your A/C or any other high consumption device, it could drain an entire F3800 within minutes. If you're just running your home with regular stuff such as lights, a dishwasher, TVs and stuff you could go for a day or so. Once you add solar panels, that will boost your usage time by a lot. I plan on doing a follow-up video talking about this.

Okay so did the numbers. This man said that his power was out for 3 days. From what I see of his setup, he will get a day and a half max for power even with 4 solar panels Just for his battery stuff without installation he paid between $13,794 to $16594 for 12k watts For a natural gas generator that does not need to be filled he gets the same power that runs forever for $4599.

Instead of using these in the morning, you should use them at 2pm. That's usually peak time and the most expensive time to be running off the grid. Have them charge via solar at the same time. Then fully charge overnight off the grid when rates are dirt cheap. You really aren't offsetting that much cost if only using them in the AM before 2pm.

Hi Antwan, thanks for sharing. I am in Austin, so similar concerns. But I did not have enough to invest in the Anker F3800, so I had to decide what was our need vs want for emergency power. I ended up buying two Anker Solix F2000 portable power stations, one to power my refrigerator in the kitchen, and another to power my extra freezer in the garage. And of course we can plug other things into them as well as needed. But now I am starting to think about how to go the route you took, with rewiring essential power needs through a sub-panel, and then figuring out how to connect my F2000s to the sub-panel. Any thoughts?

Thanks for watching. Our original dryer was gas, then we converted to electric for some reason. Now that we've visually seen how much energy that thing consumes, we'll definitely be going back to gas pretty soon. We did the same with our oven after the Texas winter storm that hit us a couple of years ago; converted to a gas double oven. It uses a LOT less electricity and still works during an outtage.

Line story short who did your install? We evaluated solar,generac, and finally settled on batteries (solid 3800). It can’t find an experienced installer.

I bought the solix 3800 and returned it. The amount of money you are dropping to anker for that system is insane, you might of as well go for the X1 battery packs at that point. Not to mention the life span of those 3800 using them daily your investment will flat out at 10 year life span.

Hmmm…. Unfortunately, your system doesn’t support dual charging. The XT60 solar input is too low which results in you using the grid to keep the batteries charged. Since you are charging via solar XT60 you should max out the input on each to balance and reduce grid costs.

If my math is right, this setup is 15.36 kWh. If you are ONLY running a typical space heater that would last about 10-12 hours assuming no grid or solar input. Running everything shown in this video your batteries would be dead in about an hour or two. This is at a cost of about $9,400 plus installation. Or you could get a $500 Champion dual fuel inverter generator and $200 worth of propane and run a space heater for days. If my numbers are off please let me know.

Off the top of my head, your number aren't unrealistic. The benefits you're leaving out is that some people do not want to deal with the maintenance, sound, smell, or anything else that has to do with generator. The other major benefit is being able to incorporate it into daily use and power management for your home, whereas a generator is only used in emergency situations. All of this comes at a "luxury" premium right now. As stuff like this becomes more widespread, cost will come down, and hopefully efficiency will go up. Sort of like how a 50" Plasma TV used to cost $30K.

No, in order to properly start a 5 ton A/C unit, you'll need two of them. A soft-start will help with one, but not 100% effective.

The A/C unit and pool pumps are the highest power drain. In an emergency situation, I would run the pool to circulate the water off and on, and only run the A/C to drop the house temp a couple of degrees. This would keep me going for a minimum of two days. When you incorporate the little bit of solar energy we're drawing in, that extends the time even longer.

Why not run your house and charge batteries off solar during the day . Then run house off batteries at night . Minimizing grid .
