I probably would have gotten in trouble. I would have leaned over her shoulder to see her phone and let her know that since she felt like sharing her conversation on the phone, instead of watching the production show, that I wanted to get a closer look. Yeah, it's obvious that she was not a seasoned cruiser and since the cruise lines have increased the size of their ships, we are getting more newbies that have not learned how to be considerate of others that are also taking a vacation on that ship. There should be an announcement that cell phones should be completely turned off during the performance as not to bother others. Sheesh!! Thanks for sharing.

I've only experienced something like that at one concert (not a cruise ship). It was a small venue, maybe 700 people total. There was one guy, obviously drunk, who was laughing and stirring up a conversation with his buds during the concert. Everyone within five rows was getting annoyed. After about ten minutes of that, several people informed security and they escorted him out. Thankfully he only got to see about 20 minutes of what ended up being an epic 2 hour concert.

Now days, I believe people are intentionally trying to annoy others. I choose to ignore bad behavior because giving it attention is what they want. I can’t believe a staff member didn’t stop her. On my last cruise, I was sitting in the handicap section because I am disabled. There was one seat between me and a young boy about 7. He would lean as far forward in his seat as possible and throw himself back against the chair. He did this constantly, completing the maneuver every 30 seconds. This lasted the entire show. It was very distracting. Worse, with the way my condition is it started causing me pain about 5 minutes in. At the end of the half hour show, my pain was excruciating. I knew I couldn’t say anything. Any parent who sits there and allows that behavior would have flipped out no matter how nicely I said something. I also couldn’t move because of my disability.

We are on a Disney cruise and we are in a big movie theater. This also happened during the Broadway type shows. It happens all the time. There is a person or a couple watching the show watching the movie texting on their phone talking on their phone and planning events for the rest of today tomorrow the rest of the week while movies on the movie theater is completely dark except for their screens and it’s not just one there are several in the Broadway show. There’s quite a few more because it’s not as dark and you can’t really see them. I’m in total agreement with you. Keep up the good work.

Joe matches mine perfectly except one time it was a single lady one time it was a single man and the next time it was a couple with both their phones. On the Disney Cruise you get lucky cause you see premieres about a week before they show in the movie theaters and movies that are just released in the movie theaters so over a 14 day cruise I saw three movies and out of all three movies and the movie theater holds a couple thousand I would think it may be 500. And yes you could see through the whole movie theater. There was about 5 to 7 groups one time three of people on their phones doing stuff planning their cruise.

I think that part of the problem is generational. In my generation, we gave our attention to one thing at a time, but today, people are continuously exposed to many stimulus at the same time and their brain evolve in a way that it's normal for them. I guess that if you asked her if she was looking at the show, she would have said yes, for her it's normal to see a show and have a conversation at the same time. She didn't think that it was causing a nuisance because she tought that everyone else was able to do 2 things at the same time. Look at movies today compared to those made 50 years ago, today, the plot need to have something new happening every 30 seconds if they don't want to loose the attention of the viewers, it's the same in music and many other things. I often go to see rock concerts and other type of music and when I enter a venue, by looking at the average age of the spectators, I can guess if people will talk during the show or not. I'm not excusing her, it was irrespecfull for the artits and the other guests, but I think that it partly explain what went in her mind.
