Justin is so misunderstood..yes what he did was terrible but guys HE TRIED. HE TRIED to get Bryce off Jessica but Bryce resolved to violence and pushed him out the door and locked him out and you all saw he was drunk, lying on the floor crying, he couldn't function properly. Stop giving Justin shit about not 'doing anything' because Hannah didn't even try and do anything, just simply sat there in shock. He is a good guy, who sadly lives a miserable life and felt as if Bryce was his brother..the betrayal..Justin thought not telling Jessica would help her, he wasn't thinking of himself, he wasn't selfish! he was thinking of Jess..and only Jess. He told her in the end which was the right thing to do, he should've told her sooner. Everyone makes mistakes, but at least he owned up to it in the end. Everyone deserves a second chance and Justin deserves one too.

Jeremy Hayton Alex doesn't have to be redeemed. He didn't deserve to be on the tapes in the first place. He didn't ruin her friendship with jessica, jessica did that. alex never said he slept with her, she just assumed that.

By that justification, Zach shouldn't have been on the tapes either. He literally had no relationship with her. He might not have helped her during the rumors at the beginning, neither did Alex, but he didn't start any of them either and he was actually nice to her when she needed a bit of comfort (after Marcus) and never did anything to her until *she* went off on him, in front of the whole damn cafeteria, and that embarrassment then spurred him to get back at her but even so, he didn't do it the way the others did. He didn't humiliate her publicly, didn't let his friends know: he just messed with her on the DL in a way that he thought was harmless. There was no way for him to know just how unstable she was at that time or how much the little drawings meant to her until he read the letter and we also saw that he didn't even throw away the letter like Hannah thought, which makes her an unreliable narrator/POV.

Same. I find it rather offensive that people excuse Justin but lump Zach in with the likes of Marcus and Courtney when he's actually even more innocent than Alex. And I honestly wonder if Hannah ever realized that there were people who would've been kind to her, who *were* kind to her, had she not pushed them away. Probably not. She was so wrapped up in her pain that she couldn't see anyone else's.

He had no one to talk to about Bryce's betrayal. No family no friends, he knew how much being rape fucks you up and he knew he couldn't take back what Bryce did to the only person he cared about, but he thought he could've protected her from the terrible post trauma effect that comes with rape. He thought if he didn't tell Jessica she would be fine. Who was he supposed to talk to? With a fucked up family and no real friends? I have been drunk off my ass and i bet you all have and you know how hard it is to function in a situation like that. He's a misunderstood person who's just trying to make the right thing for the right person. In all of the episodes everything he did every step he took he was thinking about Jessica, he was trying to protect her, love her. It's not his fault he wasn't strong enough.

I honestly hate how people say Justin pretended like what happened to Jessica didn’t really happen because Bryce “bought him basketball shoes”. That is not why he did that. First, he honestly did believe it was for Jessica’s own good if she didn’t remember it, and he didn’t want to put her through it. He wanted to look out for her. Second, when he was telling Jessica about how Bryce took care of him, all you guys heard was he bought Justin shoes. That isn’t the only fucking thing Justin said. He said he was there when he was starving or didn’t have a place to stay. Justin saw Bryce as a brother, so when that happened, he was in shock. Justin went through so much shit at home, that when Bryce helped out, it felt like he was the only one there for him. That’s what was going through his fucking mind, not a pair of damn shoes.

Ok... So it's Justin's fault..? Hannah was in the that room too. Just because Justin is a guy, doesn't mean he can't have feelings, plus the fact that Bryce is physically stronger then him. “I want you to understand what its like to be raped” He fucking understood long before her, but she was so caught up in her own world. She had a good life until she was raped. Justin, justin was raped, abused (physically and psychologically), and shut down. He had a shit life, but jessica can only think of herself. she never ONCE asked if he was okay or if he experienced anything of the sort, but she didnt, she probably assumed that it doesnt happen to men or something. One of my least favourite characters honestly. Plus, he TRIED to get bryce off of her, but he was stronger, no one is talking about the fact hannah was in that room too, and just left it.

I really feel like people don't understand how deep brotherhood can be and how toxic it can be also. Boys have this bond that can be horribly emotionally manipulative and pressure filled. The fact is Every one around Justin has emotionally or physically abused him or turned him away he's a vulnerable victim when he sees wrong he feels guilty but he won't do anything because the only stability in his life was Bryce and unless you've walked into the shoes of a kid like Justin you obviously won't understand the conflict and turmoil to do the right things when your stability is threatened. I also am totally in support of Jessica Justin was a bystander and he let it happen she has every right to be upset. Jessica and Justin have one the most relastic characters I have ever seen and I'm so in love with their story line. In the end Jessica deserves justice however I feel like Justin deserves it also he's literally being abused and neglected and controlled but that doesn't excuse his actions at all.

Yes, he only tried once to save Jess. But come on guys, he was basically black-out drunk, unable to function properly, and yet he still tried. Bryce proceeded to lock him out of the room with violence, leaving him crying on the ground. Yes, all of his actions were not right. But all of the choices he made were made thinking of Jess, to protect her, to keep her safe. He wasn't selfish. He was doing what he thought was best for Jessica's and only Jessica's happiness. Jess, you're blind if you're not seeing that this guy - no matter how much it hurt you AND him - did everything he could to make YOUR life better. Why would a guy go out of his way to make a girl's life better if they didn't love the girl?

Season 4: Justins death His death hurt like millions of bombs in my chest and when he died, they all exploded. I still haven't recovered, I had an attack becuase of how emotionally traumatic it was. I can feel my heart slowly crumbling and I dont think I'll be able to find the pieces to pick them up. This death was the saddest most heartbreaking thing in the world because I've never hurted so much.

I agree his character deserved to live and go on and live a good future. Not get better , be clean, get accepted to college , be a role model, ALL for him to relapse because his mom died , finding out he had AIDS then die in a matter of days. He came from the bottom and ended up at the bottom. When he was almost on top they killed him off right back at the bottom. So sad.

I don't think people really realize the affects child abuse has on someone it screws you up big time Justin tried to stop Bryce he tried to get him off of her but Justin pushed him out and locked the door and he probably thought back to all the abuse he's went through plus he was drunk he couldn't comprehend anything right I'm in no way saying he was perfect he made mistakes and did things he really shouldn't have but he was so much more than those mistakes he was deep down a good guy he was so screwed up and he didn't have any concept of love until Jessica came around and I believe he truly does love her a lot he couldn't bring himself to tell her what happened because he couldn't bare the thought of her knowing what had happened to her (I'm again not saying he was perfect) yes he could have told her but I understand where he was coming from and I'm sorry this rant went on so long but I feel so strongly about Justin and I have to get it out lol 👌🏻

This was so good. I feel like everyone on the tapes deserves a vid set to this song('cept Bryce). Lord knows they're all a hot mess, Justin especially. But as much as I sympathize with his situation and wish his home life had been better, he doesn't get a pass just because his life was s**t. Tyler doesn't; Courtney doesn't; neither does Marcus.The only way he'll get true redemption and be able to live with and love himself is if he pays for the part he played in it all. I worry about his mental stability tho. He's lost everything. There's no telling what he'll do or is capable of(just like Tyler).

@@lesliedelvalle526 Like, every time I watched that scene even before S3 I was like "He probably does tbh… Knowing how he grew up..." but there was no confirmation so I wasn't completely sure... And then he stood up in that Assembly and I just thought back to this scene and felt so bad for both Justin and Jessica. Because honestly, she'd probably think back to that moment where she pretty much told him he didn't understand and feel so guilty for not seeing it or feel like her saying that pushed him to keep it in longer. Which is definitely didn't. He was so not ready to tell anyone. But with these sorts of things, it's kinda probable that she'd think about that and feel guilty about it. :(

Once a video gets to around the hundred thousand views stage the comments section tends to take an interesting turn haha... I guess your vid description here might've started it too. I love the debates about the characters and the opinions. I think it's really interesting and complicated how they painted Justin and made him a really easy to feel for victim in many ways by the end of the show, but still made him make some really bad choices from the beginning, but all along mainly make his friend Bryce the "Evil" one and you could see it from the first tape...
