Well Poirier had the strategy of using the lower calf kick on mcgregor because they are difficult to check and he was timing it as mcgregor tried to come in with a combo which is when he has the most pressure on his front leg

That’s what got him in the Charles fight. Charles read every kick from Justin perfectly.
@alphacraig20016 ай бұрын
Interesting, how do you think Charles was able to counter Justin’s best attack so efficiently?
@kerke46395 ай бұрын
@@alphacraig2001 He clearly was focues on checking the kicks. We saw him be comfortable taking shots to the dome and go down because he is comfortable going down and executing from there. He clearly was focused on keeping his legs alive for the fight rather than his chin. We see him go down twice in this fight and he takes his time and gets up because Justin isn't willing to take it to the ground with someone miles ahead of him. That is the same reason why Islam got the job done against him. Charles was clearly ok trading shots at the top because he could instantly utilize a moment when Justin gets cracked. That's not the case for Justin. But Charles knew that Gaethje could get him with the leg kicks and that could put him in position to be finished.

The fact that khabib our wrestled Justin is insane. Justin is a crazy ass wrestler. Lot of creds. Couldn't imagine, after seeing so many of his old wrestling videos, that anyone could take him down and pin him, let alone DOMINATE him, and win easily. Just f*ckin nuts.

He puts hands on opponents first and that’s why he’s so effective (that’s part of his wrestling background that allows him to move opponents). That’s why you see Khabib grabbing first here as a counter. When Khabib did that, Justin had to circle out of it constantly and couldn’t kick as you see in the video. He figured that out mid match. Then he was able to predict Justin’s kicks more. Kind of used Justin’s love for the clinch against him. Really smart.

these experts couch here dissing his technique just because against charles and khabib the way he lost, he is a title challenger and have good coach, of course this is works specifically in mma, he doesn't really mean close clinch, but just get in hand fighting low position(yeah this is also happens in kickboxing). but against a muay thai stance it is not helpful unless you make your opponent do it, because first they can defend leg kicks easier from there, and second they go to a straight clinch unless they throw a knee, and a knee will prevent you from setting this beautiful sh*t up.

Leg kicks off the clinch using wrestling technique to get your opponent to shift his weight on his lead foot, makes sense when you think about it! It’s between Jones, Volkanovski, GSP and Anderson Silva O’malley hair Chito Vera’s big ecuadorian toe Usman’s dressing style (totally) Sonnen’s personality and his ability to keep people at bay, can’t let them get close. The video doesn’t do a good job of showing Justin actually execute leg kicks inside the clinch, it is crazy to watch, if you think about it. He generates so much torque and power from the clinch. Whether you love him or hate him, you cannot deny the fact that Justin Gaethje is one of the best leg kickers to ever fight in mma. A ruthless lumberjack that chops his opponents down with powerful kicks like the legend from years back Pedro "The Rock" Rizzo.... Anyone who has not watched Gaethje's fights from World Series of Fighting should go check out how many guys he annihilated with those leg kicks.. True he lost to Khabib but not even the GOAT himself could have survived another 6+ of those leg kicks....

I’ve been saying this. One thing he didn’t mention is the hip dexterity of a wrestler. Being able to move ur hips like that in punching range and land a kick is very useful. I do it in sparring a lot just because u practically gotta look down to realize I’m kicking u. It’s not hard. I just feel like it isn’t used enough. When ur punching instead of ending the combo with a punching then stepping out a range u can land that kick from punching range as well if u use it and time it right
