Tua Tagovailoa or Justin Herbert? It’s been one of the biggest debates in football this season and I truthfully don’t understand why. Justin Herbert and Tua Tagovailoa have both been extremely successful in their own way this year, but it seems relatively clear who is the superior talent and that’s Justin Herbert. Tua has had an amazing season and has proven to the Miami Dolphins that he can be the future, but Justin Herbert is better. Watching these two head to head, it’s very clear who can make the throws and who is merely a product of a situation opposed to a truly elite quarterback. Also being a system qb or “product of a situation” isn’t necessarily a knock. Offenses are often based off of their qbs strengths. You wont see Tom Brady running QB runs like Lamar or Allen, and you wouldn’t want Marshawn Lynch or Mike Alstott in a spread offense. It requires the right system to take advantage of the players unique talents skills and attributes to be great. We see what happens to players who have exceptional skill and talent but when they’re in the wrong system they don’t succeed. Take Bill Belichick for example. He’s the master at finding all of these random players who have specific skills he can plug into specific situations, personnel and plays. Then those players go to another team and they don’t have near as much success. Or we have smart coaches who trade for a great player and they gameplan and change their system to take advantage of that players talents and have even more success. Again Bill Belichick is another example because the Patriots offense was a lot of zone runs, setting up the play action and short passing but Bill traded for Randy Moss and they started throwing it deep because that was Randy’s skillset. Then when Randy left they went back to the short pass game. All of football is a system and all players are system players.

That's a tough comparison to sell. Coming from someone who likes both of those QB's, you have to look at achievements to truly judge them properly. Burrow did take a 2-14 team to the Superbowl in year 2. Plus they were pretty close to each other in yards and TD's that rookie year before Burrow got hurt. I'd say Burrow and Herbert are like the new Brady and Manning. One's got the intangibles and the other has the tangibles. Though both are very smart, and both will be HOF'ers one day.

the 2020 QB draft is probably going to go down as an all time great one. Joe Burrow, Herbert, Tua, and Jalen Hurts...all of these guys have a good shot at winning at least one super bowl. My one genuine concern for Tua, though, is concussions. I hope he manages to avoid them the rest of his career. But I do agree about Herbert. He's just a freak of nature matching physical skills with that uncanny ability to never seem overwhelmed by anything happening on the field. His first start in the NFL proved that.

He’s had offensive talent around him, the offense isn’t the problem it’s the defense watch the games. Tua came in the league with his WR1 and 2 as Lynn Bowdan and Mac Hollins and a bottom 5 OLine. Year 2 he had rookie Waddle and Max Hollins and the worst rated OLine in the past 15 years. Now that the team actually built an offense around him “the recievers carry” even tho the Dolphins are 22nd in YAC, and Tua has the most completions over 20+ yards. Mahomes is considered a GOAT with the best TE, best receiver. Allen wasn’t great till he got Diggs and DaBoll. Hurts gets Devonta, AJ, best OLine, no one says it’s cause of his system. Tyreek and Waddle have played in all 15 games. Mike Williams and Keenan Allen have played in a total of 17 games total between the two. I believe that a good QB works with what he has regardless and that's what Herbert has been doing. It is clear J&D Productions did not do his research on Miami/Tua, I kept waiting for the video to mention something of substance, but this was obviously very low effort. There is reasoning why Miami took Tua over Herbert. Miami very much liked Herbert. It was close. However, coming out of college, Herbert was very much considered comparable to Tannehill, he was a Pac-12 OREGON QB that have a high potential of failure. His Tannehill comparison, weak conference, weak QB school were pretty concerning. Miami's biggest QB failure was going with the more athletic QB (Culpepper) over Drew Brees, who Tua has drawn comparisons to. When Tua is on, he looks very much like a young Brees. Miami still feels like shit by passing on Brees. If Tua didn't get injured, he probably goes #1 overall. #2, at worst. Who could expect Miami to pass on a potential Drew Brees type of prospect due to an injury (exactly what they did with Brees) for an athletic QB from a school known for its shit QBs? Just like Tannehill.. Everyone in Miami was SICK of making that same mistake. The years Miami wasted by passing on Brees for the more athletic QB and then drafting Tannehill HAUNTS the Dolphins organization and fanbase. NOW its SO easy to say Herbert is the best QB out of Oregon and not just athletic, not just another Tannehill, but an upper tier QB. Send me the link where you called this prior to him being drafted. You didn't. It is a given now, but it wasn't then! And if you say it was so obvious, you're a liar. Miami did what made sense. The Brees mold, the QB that played and BEAT the toughest teams in the nation ever since his first start in the fucking national championship, not the bullshit Pac-12 with an athletic QB. Brees, Culpepper, Tannehill all play a huge role in this. It made too much sense, yet you never mention this in an 8 minute video lol. This 100% true. No offense to Tua, but he's not in the same league as the other three prominent QB's in his draft class (Burrow, Herbert, and Hurts). All three of them have had some kind of substantial evidence of being "the guy" on their teams. Burrow took a 2-14 team to the superbowl on year 2 and beat KC at Arrowhead in the AFC Championship. Herbert broke all these rookie records and played well despite bad coaching and injuries on his team. Hurts has improved each year similar to Josh Allen and is probably going to the Superbowl this year. So I mean...yeah Tua isn't bad, but give one of those other QB's Waddle and Hill and it would be nasty. Plus don't overlook the O line situation either. Tua has a great O line and Herbert has one of the worst. Burrow had the worst O line in the league last season and STILL went to the superbowl. It's tough to say if Hurts is better than Burrow or Herbert though because his whole team is stacked and he has the best O line, but I would certainly put him way over Tua as well.

The debate is not close. One is extremely injury prone and fragile who can't throw more than 30 yards and the other is bigger, faster, more mobile, and superior at passing. You can't tell me Justin Herbert wouldn't be putting up Patrick Mahomes numbers if he had Tyreek Hill out there with Mike Williams. Tua isn't bad, but he's not that caliber of QB physically and I don't see the intangibles (like Burrow has) either.
