Obj’s might have been more iconic, but I think the fact it was on 4th and long and that he literally took it from the defenders TWO hands with ONE of his own make this a better catch

I think the most underrated catch is Julian Edelman's catch in Super Bowl 51. Everyone I was watching with thought it was incomplete, but then the replay happens and even Troy and Joe are like "WTF, he actually caught it?" Yes Julio Jones'catch was also insane, but Jule's catch deserves to be talked about

OBJ's catch was more visually stunning, or prettier or smoother if you will. But it was 2nd quarter, 1st and 10, and the Giants were 3-7. JJ had to literally pull the ball away with 1 hand from a defender's 2 hands with a big game on the line. if he doesn't catch it, that's game over and the rest of the season shapes different for both teams.

as a Vikings fan, i would say that Edelman's catch was bigger and better. that stage in that moment, literally a millimeter away from hitting the ground and DOUBLE catching it?! JJs catch was great yes, but Edelman's catch was the most clutch of all time

JJ's catch has a few factors going for vs OBJ's it to make the argument for greatest catch ever. #1) Contest of strength. JJ was able to rip it out of a defenders two hands with only just his one. OBJ had to make the catch with once he was able to create separation #2) The circumstances. Many who are in favor of OBJ's like to throw out the phrase "in a vacuum" which has its merits, but football isn't "in a vacuum" and OBJ's catch didn't result in anything besides a TD in a game the Giants lost. JJ's catch was 4th and 18, which saved the game. Given that it was a do or die situation, this makes JJ's catch better. #3) Body Control. Like Digg's catch from earlier in the game, which was similar to OBJ's, it's an extension of body and strong hands/fingers, but that's where it ends. JJ's was more physically demanding because it had the extension of body, strong hands and he had to contort his body in such a way to be able to protect ball from hitting the ground.

Hella impressive catch, but the glove advancements of the last 10 years are the reason this was a catch. No chance in hell he catches that 10-15 years ago. Regardless props to JJ and still one of the best of all time. Same with the OBJ catch

OBJ made that catch on 1st and 10 up 7-3 in the 2nd quarter, and even if he doesn't catch it there was a a DPI call on the play. JJ made his catch on 4th and 18, down 23-27 with two minutes left in the game, no flags. JJ's catch clears easily.

Tyree's helmet catch, Clark's "The Catch", and The Immaculate Reception are my best/greatest catches. After them, its this one, then Edelman, then OBJ.
