One person commented that it could be someone in Justin's life that's no longer there and when I rewatched it just now, it made sense. On that note that everything is there for a reason - the book on the floor partially covered by a bit of foliage, about half a minute in is Stephen King’s The Dark Half. There is an undercurrent of madness/darkness in Justin’s story. It can’t be titled ‘Surreal’ if everything is exactly just the way it appears. It’s not a simple happy/innocent song. He mentioned in an interview about 2-3 other songs, about more revelations in future drops. ‘Sitting on the edge of a cliff’… more like a hanging on the edge of a cliff. On tenter hooks here!

I was actually having a last song syndrome (LSS) with this song since I first heard it. It makes me feel light and worry-free even for a brief moment. And the MV is one of the best I've seen in OPM. Seriously! Actually those people who went with him in Korea were all part of the team. Not only was Stell the HMUA but he's also one of the 2 content producers (I think you missed it when you've gone over the credits). The girl you hear in the background was no other than GELOU of YARA. Yes, the girl people believed to be the one Stell fell in love with during their younger days. The MV started where the trailer ended. My most favorite parts are: when he was imagining dancing with someone in the snowy woods, running away with someone in the forest, the sunset and sunrise shots, imagining being with someone under the sheets with him, the socks!, the bench scene (my God, he’s so beautiful there), and lastly us finding the pine cone and the boot on top of his bed. I cry whenever I watch this mv because surreal hits so hard when you’re grieving a beloved. The lyrics talk about us imagining a beautiful world with someone beside us but in the mv jah is all alone dancing and playing with someone imaginary. “While we walk slowly under the trees and we swing each others hands in rhythm” and he was alone?? I cried so hard man :,(( But something about it is also healing like when when he removed the covers & transitioned into the “cliff” as if he’s finally about to say goodbye. It just felt like a chapter was closing and he was ready to start healing. And true enough, when the sun started rising in the mv, it’s like a new journey was about to start ❤️‍🩹

So true. Everything here is in perfect harmony. For me, I think it's more like a love story about self love. Because in tiktok 1 yr ago, Jah uploaded a bit of this song and the title was then "Parallel Universe" which kind of indicates that the other person he refers to as "you and i" is also him in his parallel universe. It is like him inviting himself to enter the world of his imagination. In the ending part, you will see that he's slowly coming back to reality, like the other person with him under the blanket was gone the moment blanket was lifted or when he was on the cliff and the wind blew and the likes then was gone. Like, we all can live inside our imagination but at the end of the day, as we face the sunrise, we still need to live in our own reality. But even then, as the lyrics said in the last part of the song, he promised to keep in his heart everything that he experienced inside this parallel universe, he said it's embedded and that though it felt unreal, it's still so real for him too. So it's like coming to love yourself inside and also remembering to keep loving yourself even after returning back to your own reality. ❤😊 P.S. I love how you take time to breakdown and all the details Jah added in this MV and the trailer too. So on point. Thank you so much.

The song could be interpreted through the lens of one’s age (plus life experience). As a decades -long creative, I felt it like this: Being highly artistic and introverted, you try to shield yourself from the harshness and pain of real life. You have experienced heartbreak, disappointments in varying degrees. And created a ‘parallel universe’ to heal. After some time, you realize that it is time to go back. Live in the real world.
