The song is actually about criticism JT received about cultural appropriation in his music. His tweet in response could easily interpreted as dismissive, even defensive, and he regretted his words because he says they were not what he felt or thought. JT had asked chris to write songs for his album, and “Say Something” was one of the tunes they collaborated on (with other folks). Chris had no intention of singing with JT on it, but was asked to, which, IMO, elevated the song even more.

Music is an aggregate process. Cultural appropriation is joke in regards to music. Gospel met country. Fast forward, blues, rock n roll, funk, metal, punk, rap, hip-hop, and today. The whole story is a cultural collaboration. Those who say otherwise is ignorant of the historical narrative. The irony of alleged racism in this country, is one of America's greatest creations is the seamless fusion of black and white musical culture.

When Chris stapleton adds his voice to this it just launches it into the stratosphere! How he pounds out meloooodyyyyyy 😍 the voice of a generation he's incredible . . .And big respect to Justin for reinventing himself . . I hope this is how his music will go now because he's so talented and hiding behind music and dancing etc although he's good at it doesn't highlight his real talent .. . .Such a breath of fresh air in the music world I seriously can't stop listening to this song it's perfect . . .That bit when it's just Chris Justin and the choir for the first time goes right to the bone it's perfect

WOW! If you really listen, you can hear the acoustics of the building they're in. At one point not long after Justin Timberlake went solo, I realized that his talent was undeniable as was his knowledge of bands, artists and music. I was part of a catering crew at a golf tournament in Central California and had just gotten off work. I was having my dinner and a drink wear a Hockey Jersey and listening to music on my headphones. Jeremy Roenick and Justin Timberlake walk by in they're golf get up. To my surprise that came back out and sat at my table so I took my headphones off and at first we talked about Ice Hockey and football. Then Jeremy asked me what I was listening to. When I said "Heavy Metal", Jeremy smiled at Justin and said "Told you. Most hockey fans listen to the Metal"... they asked what bands. At the time I was listening to SAVATAGE and they reacted "Oh, Yeah! Tampa guys know how to rock!". Which tells me they're familiar with the band. They asked me if I ever listen to Justin. I answered honestly that I like most of what I have heard from him and the songs on EA Sports games I played but didn't own any of his music. Jeremy asked if I listened to his band. I told them I didn't know he had one. He said, "I don't. I just wanted to see how honest you were being". The rest of the conversation is classified information 😏

This is how I interpret the song: He's talking about the public feeling like they have a right to know everything about his life. It sounds like he made mistakes in his relationship and they became public knowledge. Everyone's telling him to comment on it, but he doesn't want to be just another piece of gossip. He wants more control over what he publicly says and doesn't say. "Sometimes the greatest way to say something is to say nothing at all."

jacob motes Garth IS a country legend. Most of the "Country Legends" are fakes who never worked a day in their lives, do not ride horses, nor follow the lifestyle they sing about. The "Country Industry" often shunned people like Chris LeDeux (sp) who truly DID live the lifestyle. George Jones is an excellent example of a guy who never lived the life. He never even drove a tractor except to take a riding lawnmower from his gardener to get more booze. Name a "Country Legend" and I will point out the 50% of them who were total Frauds.

This is the first time I ever saw the video and it is outstanding. Lyrics Transcribed: Oh, yeah, alright Ooh (yeah) Everyone knows all about my direction And in my heart somewhere I wanna go there Still I don't go there Everybody says "say something" Say something, say something Then say something, say something, then say something I don't wanna get caught up in the rhythm of it But I can't help myself, no, I can't help myself, no, no Caught up in the middle of it No I can't help myself, no I can't help myself, no, no, no Caught up in the rhythm of it Maybe I'm looking something that I can't have (maybe I'm looking something that I can't have) Maybe I'm looking something that I can't have Everyone knows all about my transgressions Still in my heart somewhere, there's melody and harmony For you and me, tonight (whoa) I hear them call my name Everybody says "say something" Then say something, say something Then say something, say something then say something I don't want to get caught up in the rhythm of it But I can't get help myself, no I can't help myself, no, no Caught up in the middle of it No I can't help myself, no I can't help myself, no, no, no Caught up in the rhythm of it Maybe I'm looking something that I can't have (maybe I'm looking something that I can't have) Maybe I'm looking something that I can't have (maybe I'm looking something that I can't have) Maybe I'm looking something that I can't have (maybe I'm looking something that I can't have) Maybe I'm looking something that I can't have (maybe I'm looking something that I can't have) Sometimes the greatest the way to say something is to say nothing at all Sometimes the greatest the way to say something is to say nothing at all Sometimes the greatest the way to say something is to say nothing But I can't help myself, no I can't help myself, no, no Caught up in the middle of it No I can't help myself, no I can't help myself, no, no, no Caught up in the rhythm of it Maybe I'm looking something that I can't have (maybe I'm looking something that I can't have) Maybe I'm looking something that I can't have (maybe I'm looking something that I can't have) Maybe I'm looking something that I can't have (maybe I'm looking something that I can't have) Maybe I'm looking something that I can't have (maybe I'm looking something that I can't have) Sometimes the greatest the way to say something is to say nothing at all Sometimes the greatest the way to say something is to say nothing at all Sometimes the greatest the way to say something is to say nothing

The video versus the radio version are far too different. Love the live version way better. This video displays their vocal abilities without autotunes and the other crap artists use to accentuate their voices. This is an amazing video. The whole concept was well put together and exceptionally made! Love the reaction!

If we're talking modern country you guys should get into Kacey Musgraves. "Dime Store Cowgirl" is a good jumping off point.

They were amazing at the 2015 CMT awards when they did Tennessee Whiskey and Drink You Away. You really should check that out as well. I read somewhere they chose to sing live in this video because of the acoustics of the building. I love this song.

I just found this channel tonight. watched a few videos , enjoyed you comments. then I saw you were going to be listening to Tennessee whiskey for your first country song. country is where the blues started. the troubadours were the first blues singers . I'm glad I found this channel you really seem to have an ear for beauty.

If I remember right, "Say Something" was written about having an argument with a loved one. Some irritation starts, then someone says, "What? Say something!" You don't want to get "caught up in the rhythm of it," but "can't help myself." And in the end, sometimes the best thing is to "say nothing at all."

I heard Tennessee whiskey a few times from a single KZbin cover. These two together was the first time I heard the song in full. I love the original but their CMA performances were otherworldly. I didnt even know the second song was Justin's song. So when I heard they'd made this song I was pretty pumped. It's a great song and I think anyone should watch the video you get more respect from what these 2 do in real time. Hopefully they collab some more
