He really was. I found him a little later along his career, but, I'm glad I found him. I regret missing him at a local theater, but we still have his music, thankfully.

A harmonica is a big part of this in the single virsion. I admire how his live performance is much different. Kinda forces even his biggest fans to pay attention & listen. I like to sing along, but no way I could sing along with this performance. Makes it feel more personal & passionate live. Hopefully I get to hear this in the afterlife. For me a female doesn't even have to be a part of it, just leaving your struggle in the past is the best message to take from this. The right tune can heal all wounds.

How the heck is he doing that picking technique!? Awesome!!!!!
@patrickking549110 жыл бұрын
It's a modified version of what's referred to as Travis Picking. Plenty of tutorial videos on it. Except JTE only uses two fingers, if you can imagine that! Thumb alternates on two bass notes and the index hits the treble notes. I'm sure his unique style comes from hours and hours of practice. I've been trying to learn it for months and still can't get the rhythm right.
@littlechickadee17 жыл бұрын
Wicked pickin' here for sure! Shades of Doc Watson, Chet Atkins...old school masters and major influences on pretty much all guitar pickers that have followed through the years (Doc left behind some excellent pickin' tutorials you can find here on KZbin). Love that JTE keeps the style and technique going in his own writing and playing...this tune makes me feel so damn happy. Yeah!

independent thumb movement...it'll give you worse than brain freeze...but it's worth the pain
@lsdr1954 Жыл бұрын
Didnt realize it, but that is a style been playing for years, thumb, and index, occasional middle finger...a form of Travis picking, and I guess banjo frailing style...I cant flat pick...but, this style, to me, seems a wonderful primative style...it is more physical style of playing...and really works one out...

there is really no way to tell what brand the hat is but as an avid hat wearer and amateur hatter I would say your best bet is a vintage Stetson Open Road or Stetson Stratoliner, there are others that look like his but those would be the easiest to search for and find on eBay, check out the online forum "The Fedora Lounge" for everything you could ever hope to learn about hats.
