Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said Monday there was credible evidence of ties between India's government and the assassination of Sikh activist Hardeep Singh Nijjar, carried out in Canada in June. The Indian government denies the allegation. CBS News senior foreign correspondent Holly Williams has more on Canada's claims. And Ian Austen, Canada correspondent with the New York Times, joined CBS News to discuss the situation.

I am no fan of Trudeau, but in fairness, that is not 'backtracking.' It is a denial that his protest is any kind of unreasonable act. If India protested what it thought was a killing by Canadian agents on Indian soil, would that be a "provocation"? I am not confident that India is a place where cooler heads can prevail. I hope I am wrong.

Additionally, there have been instances of attacks and vandalism on the Indian consulate in Canada by Khalistani extremists. While Canada upholds freedom of expression and non-interference in other countries' internal matters, the Canadian government forcefully stopped the trucker protest. Furthermore, Canada has criticized India about the Farmer protest in India. However, it's worth noting that the Indian government hasn't commented on the Trucker rally.

He was a leader of the Khalistan Tiger Force, an organization banned in India due to its involvement in heinous acts of terror. The Khalistan movement has been responsible for the deaths of thousands of innocent civilians in India, including the tragic bombing of Air India Flight 182 in 1985, which resulted in the loss of 329 innocent lives. India has, on multiple occasions, requested Canada to extradite such Khalistani terrorists. Yet, Canada has consistently turned a blind eye, prioritizing vote bank politics over global security. It's a blatant disregard for the countless lives lost to the terror perpetrated by these individuals. The question arises: Why does Canada, which claims to champion human rights and global peace, allow its soil to be used as a breeding ground for extremism? 1) Sikhs living in India don't want a seperate state 2) The capital of erstwhile Punjab was Lahore which is in present day Pakistan 3) 60% of the land of Punjab, during the partition of India,went to Pakistan, whereas only few thousand Sikhs are left in Pakistan. 4) Indian Sikhs are in the Army, the Government and India has had a Sikh Prime for 10 years! 5) If they really want a seperate Punjab why aren't they asking it from Pakistan as well, why are they singling out India? 6) Who is funding them? 7) Earlier it was Kashmir and now as Kashmir is getting peaceful Khalistan has cropped up 8) Why are these separatists allowed in other countries 9) Only Indian Sikhs have the right to decide. This is a nice deflection from the recent sad state of affairs of Canada and a political stunt to counter his waning popularity among Canadians. Trudeau has already been expensive for Canada for the past 8 years and now he is taking us to a potential conflict Canada doesn't need.
